I've been thinking about intalling a couple of subs and an amp in my car(2 10" Kicker CVX's and PG 1200.1 in a sealed box). The thing is that my car came with the premium stereo and a 6 disk cd changer head unit, which I think is kickass. I've been reading around and I know I can get it done with a LOC but I havn't heard if they're actually good or if they make the SQ go to hell. Can anyone let me know if they actually worth using or if they sound bad enough to go out and get a new head unit.

Thanks a lot.

If you do not wish to purchase an aftermarket H/U a LOC will work just fine. I installed one in a buddy of mine's 2001 camaro and it seems to be doing just fine. I'm sure you will not be able to hear the difference between an aftermarket h/u and a good LOC.

I got to agree with the last post, most LOC work fine. Just have to make sure that you get one thats specific for you car. You cant just pick up a cheap one and have a BOSE system in there and expect it to work propertly. Do a lil research on here and online, and you will find what your looking for.

lol. But anyway, as long as you use a voltmeter to make sure that the voltage is correct coming out of the LOC you should be fine. A buddy of mine used an LOC in his cavalier and it was a cheap one so when we tried to adjust it, we pushed the gain control adjuster in where we couldn't get to it. He ended up toasting 2 subs due to amp clipping because of it.

Here ya go

Would you be able to give me a ballpark figure of how much voltage should be coming out of the LOC or does it depend on my amp?

Well, you would need to know your amp's maximum input voltage. Once you figure that out, I would imagine that you set it like setting your gains. I would turn it down just a tiny bit after that so that you have some headroom to work with...

and ty amedeuce. lawls

Just F.Y.I.

The work fine as stated above as long as you get an adjustable one and set it correctly.

Before I changed out the Bose speaker/amps to regular stuff I used one with my aftermarket head unit and the factory Bose.

Just don't get a super cheap one or you might have some issues.

You get what you pay for!

I was checkin out the specs on the amp I'm thinking of getting and it says that the maximum input level is 9V. Now on one of the LOCs it said that it was adjustable from like 0 to 9.5 volts. I'm guessing I'd adjust the LOC to 9 volts or maybe a little less to be on the safe side? I'm just trying to be extra careful with this stuff.

I wouldn't start out that high.

I'd start low and then increase and check for clipping (distortion) as you increase.

I'm sure lots of people will jump in with input on the best way to do it.
