do JL subs blow easy?

I'm not sure how i blew my JL audio 12w3v2 @ 4 ohms. I was running it with max base boost 18db at 60hz, but that's enough to blow a JL? i thought JL was top end...

maybe its from not using a splitter from my amp RCA's to the receiver's one input for bass. I used the red connection from my amp to the single receiver RCA but that doesn't seem likely of the cause..

You actually were sending it more than 200 watts. If you had the bass boost maxed and at high volume, there is about a 99% chance you were clipping the signal by the amp. This causes your amp to actually put out much more power than it's rated for. It's really sending a square wave to the sub and that square wave actually has more power in it.

Bass boost is a bad thing and should never be used... period. Also, learn how to set your gains correctly. It's not JL's fault that you do not know how to setup and use your equipment.

This is indeed a correct. While not all the logic describing this video is correct, it indeed shows you why your subs died. The flat tops when clipping the crap out of the signal with Bass Boost sends much more RMS power than your standard musical uncliped signal.

help computer! my gains were set to 0 when this went down. **** bass boost, it should be banned!
