Alright, I emailed a guy about a Pioneer headunit, it is a Pioneer DEH-P6700MP, and he was asking $150 for it, when you could have bought them brand new for less than that. Here's what I said :

Hello, I was wondering if you have the Pioneer headunit still? I'm very interested, but there's no way I will pay $150. I'd offer you $100 shipped to my house, but that's about it. You could buy them brand new for the price you are asking. Let me know if you would take my offer. Thanks, Jeremiah.

Here's his response :

Why don't you just go buy one brand new then. Don't get an attitude with me, no one is forcing you to even consider buying my shit so if you're not interested in the price i gave then don't bother. I actually would've sold it for $100 but not to an ******* so... no I'm not interested in your offer.

Thank you,

Matthew ********

Yes you sound like an *******. You could have put it nicer, maybe 'I saw you have a HU for sale and I noticed they go new for about $150 I was wondering if maybe you would be willing to take $100 for it'

Although it wasnt intentional, you're message may have seemed a bit harsh to the seller. But , the response you got was uncalled for and totally childish if you ask me. It's really hard to tell from some peoples communication skills on the net wether they are assholes or not... Just buy it new if it's cheaper...

My response to his email :

Hey, I was in no way trying to be an *******. I was just stating that you could have bought them brand new for less that. If you thought I came off being an ***, you completely misunderstood my intentions. I never got an attitude, nor gave one. I was just trying to give you what I thought was a VERY reasonable offer, and stating why I thought it was a reasonable offer. My offer still stands though. I hope you don't think I'm a complete ******* for what I said, sorry. Thanks, Jeremiah.

It's a discontinued model, which is also the reason why I was only offering him $100.

Alright, I had my ipod for sale on another forum. Had $100 on it and a guy PM's me saying "Im interested in the ipod but I hope you know I can go out and get one new for $150 so I will give you $75 shipped for it." I ended up selling the ipod for $75, but did that guy get it, yeah right. I wouldnt recommend PMing a seller saying his price is wrong and you will give him less. While you said it in a polite manner, the seller probly took it as a slap in the face.

I would not take it that way - as long as it is in private and they are polite -- no problem.

IMO, you did come off as a bit cocky. I had a guy on another forum PM me saying, "Hey, do you still have that Q for sale? I wouldn't buy it for anywhere near your asking price of $218 since I can get it brand new for $260, so would you do $175 shipped to _____." My response back to him was, "Go and buy it brand new then, these subs don't lose much value and since mine has been re-coned, you are pretty much buying a brand new motor with a used dustcap.

He still tried to pay me for it @ my asking price, but I was no longer interested in doing business with him. Some people sell because they need money, and some people sell just to try out other stuff, but beware of your comments to any potential seller. You want something they have, not vice-versa.

i dont think you sounded like an "a-hole" so to speak, but he is kind of right to a point in what he says...in a situation like that i usually say something more along the lines of

"hey, I am interested the xxx that you have listed, i see where you have it priced at xxx and i know a few retailers sell them brand new for xxx, is there anyway you would consider working on the price, if so i am ready to buy"

its like fishing...just gotta have the right bait...
