Do I need a cap?

We had a system installed and the installer said he did not put in the 1 farat cap because it would just draw more juice from the alternator. He said to just buy a really good battery. I am nervous about that answer. Should there be a cap installed or is a really good battery good enough? It is a MTX 942 amp with 12" alpine Type R subs. Any help would be appreciated.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

1 good Battery under the hood would be sufficient for that amp. Is that 1 sub or 2? If 2, you are underpowering them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

its not a tough crowd...its just that theres prolly been 12,593,493 threads asking the same exact thing...all have the same answer, and would be really easy to find that answer if you just typed something like "do i need a cap" in the seach box

not assholes....im really a nice guy...just calloused because of the repetitiveness of the forums top threads.....just trying to keep things moving ya know

I'm just new to this electronic stuff as was on the forum because I started another thread. My son is getting into the stereo stuff and I'm trying to help him was all and don't want the phone call saying his battery is dead. To the post above, there are 2 subs. He purchased the whole system off the net and me being new to this, I didn't realize they are under powered. The biggest problem I have now is his right speaker wasn't working and I reconnected the black/grey wire the had come disconnected from the GM harness to the factory wires, reconnected the negative cable and it was all bad news from there. Turned the car on and the subs just started blairing and couldn't be controlled from the head? Did the head unit go? I just cannot figure out what could have happened. All I did I thought was recoonct the RF speaker wire. Just my luck

dont worry about the fegs on here, ask away, do some looking around on the forum 1st though. but like someone said there are 12,953,543 threads like this and there will be 12,995,563 more as long as this forumis alive.

on a serious note, its awsome your helping you kid out.

If you can try and do the big 3 to your son's car. There is a sticky about that on the forums. A really good battery up front would be great as well. Like everyone on here knows, caps are more of a band aid, doesn't really help anything just covers it up...
