do i need a better Alternator and a 2nd battery.

i currently have my Eclipse amp (3640) that does 40Wx4 at 4 ohms. i want to pull this out of my 77 chevy truck...8MPG is not a good trade for loud, clean music...put it into my 99 buick century, but add a Boston Acoustics GT-2300 that does 300x2 at 4 ohms for 2 12 inch subs. (2 amps at the same time)...the watteges above are in RMS ofcourse.

i have no clue what the max output is on the 3640, but i think the 2300 is 1400W.

my question is, do i need a bigger alt, ETC. i currently have some crappy battery that i want to replace with an interstate battery.

some more info about the buick...it is all stock with the 3.1 L engine. i can EASLY get the alt tested, but i dont know how many amps i need...or if i would have to do 2 HO alts.

also...i live in a town of about 3000 people. its the biggest town for 160 miles in all directions..if i cant get it from the internet, or do it my self......im screwed!

Don't pay attention to "max" ratings on amplifiers. They mean nothing to you.

If you plan on bridging that amp and running 1kW RMS, plus another 160W, it's possible that you would need to upgrade your electrical. Regardless, do the big three upgrade. If, after you do the big three and get a better battery(I would suggest getting a DieHard Platinum from Sears rather than getting an Interstate), you have considerable voltage drop, or the battery won't stay charged, etc., then you will need to get a higher output alternator.

 
ok, nearest sears dealer is 160 miles away...but i cant walk and buy a intersate.

the stock alt will charge 110A. adding up the fuse ratings of the 2 amps, i get...110 amps.

now the alt will charge at 110 amps only if i have the car reved up a bit, and the amps will only pull 110 if i have them maxed out.

thats if my assumptions learnt threw back yard wrench turning is correct.

and im not going to bridge anything...4 channel amp with 4 speakers...2 chan with 2.

big 3 is a must....but would you still recomend a HO alt.

CS-130D is the stock alt...are these able to be swaped out with the AD-244 alts?

also, i dont have a voltage guage in the car..jsut an idiot light. just play music and hold a multimeter on the bat?

It's a lot more complicated than that. You won't know for sure until you try it, but you shouldn't worry too much. Your alt output is on the higher end of factory alternators. You should be fine.

You can get a cheap voltmeter on eBay pretty easily, or you can just hold a DMM on the pos/neg going into your amp.

sweet...thanks for clearning everything up. i did soem looking, the 2 alts are a direct swap..plug and play! and the 130 has only something like 40 amps at 500RPM..the AD 244 has 100!!!

if i can find one off a junker...why not!!
