i'm in a bind. i have my 2 15in cvrs coming in the mail. should be here sometime. i just recently took out my front stock door speakers because they sound like crap and am now using just the tweets in my dash. i know i will not be able to here any music over my two 15s and that is where the problem is. i have a 4 channel amp. not real sure any of the specs because it was given to me and i pretty old. it think it does somthing like 65watts X 4 chan. @ 4ohms. i have been reading a lot of post and am thinking of maybe going diy active on a real tight budget. i have looked into the new 4ohm dayton mids with some dayton tweets. what can i get by with for a crossover. i see most people have like olgy audio build one but i can't spend that much. im not looking for a great sq system by any means just need something to get me bye. i need any suggestions and guidence on what to do. i have a the bottom of the line pioneer HU ( i think it is a 1500 or somthing like that) in case that matters. thanks.

that dayton setup would be awesome if you could fit a large format tweet in your car. i would suggest getting an active crossover rather than have someone build a custom passive crossover for you. did you buy your HU yet? if not maybe you can get an HU that has a built in 3 way crossover.

just do a search on active crossovers on here and see what brands are good. i personally don't know any active crossovers that are real good because i just use the active crossover on my HU. oh when you do your search make sure that the crossover is a 3 way crossover so you can bandpass your mids.

since you are a "newb" then you must read a bit more on learning how to effectively use an active setup. I don't think its that hard, but there is somewhat of a learning curve. because if you go active and you don't know what you are doing, then you are going to choose the wrong crossovers pts and slopes and your setup will sound like crap.

so im guessing that it is probaly time for a new hu. i've been wanting one for a while. i have been reading the crap out of the forums and all of the info i can get my hands on. so going active can actually be done with a 4 ch. amp and a hu with a 3 way cossover on it. i have found a bunch aboot good comp. speaker but no one ever has explianed how to go active.

you can buy an external crossover if you want. a 3 way active crossover. might be cheaper rather getting a new HU. you can probably get a nice one for $100 or so.

as for going active, search harder. trust me, there are plenty of threads explaining what is active and passive

budget? i would recommend either eclipse 8455, 8454, 8443 or 8053. the last two can't play mp3's though. also you can get alpine 9835 for around $350 used either here or on ebay. also the alpine 9815 has a 3 way crossover. the pioneer 860 has a 3 way active crossover as well.
