diregarding the cost, 12w7...

not sure if you didnt understand my question, were responding to something else or just bringing up a new topic..thanks for the advice on the diamonds....my orig. ques was:

The system is going to be ut into a range rover. Not sure about the battery power, but I know the alternator is 150. Would I easily be able to tell if Im going to have problems? (ques is Re whether or not I will need a capacitator/battery/alternator)

you'll definetly notice if the power isn't clean :p
i am pretty sure that if you listen to a pyramid amp that puts out a true 500 watts and then listen to a quality amp that puts out the same 500 watts you'll notice a big difference in the quality amp.
No, you're wrong. You'll notice a difference in accuracy and slope of crossovers, but not in amplifiers. Period.

i would say over 70 hz cant tweak what it wont do -mud- you can compensate with better fronts but why waste the "ultimate" sub ? tell you the truth i had an easier time tuning 8 12" memphis hps in ported (38hz) boxes for sq than i did with the breeze with the 12w7's and the hps where in an sq-sq+ comp car. the breeze had (been 8 months or so) i believe mtx 6000 series components in the kicks (5.25") spent 3 hours and all we had was what was on the amp (mtx too cant remember if it was class d series or the big a/b amp. frankly for less money and a lil more space imho he coulda had better sound.. now it went low and rumbled (he was happy) but take it off 50 cent "the club" and play some metalica in it (which this guy does) it was muddy.and yes a sub x over at 50-60 hz at 12-18 db will still produce more volume at 70-90 hz than most component sets.
70hz is nearly high enough to be directional. Frankly, I'd be concerned about pulling the stage back. I crossover at 60hz on a 24db/octave slope. Why waste an "ultimate" sub? It's hardly ultimate if you can't seem to get the response you desire about 70hz, but then again, I doubt that was the intent of the manufacturer. I'm sure Manville was more concerned with 10-60hz. The upper subbass region is deligated to front midbass drivers in any SQ oriented vehicle, as I'm sure you know. It's my opinion that too much focus is set upon subwoofers in a sound quality setup at any rate. It's a very miniscule crossection of the spectrum.

Wait, so one will or will not be able to tell the difference between a rockford and a jl audio when listening to techno on a JL 12W7

ok, I compared the features of the JL 1000/1 and the rockford fosgate 1001bd. Of course the JL is going to have some features that are better than the rockford, but in my opinion, not enough to make the difference. Can someone explain to me what a signal to noise ratio is?...The JL is posted at 95 and the RF at 100

So you are into SQ - and you have a w7 doing over 60hz?

Interesting...

You talk trash about upgrading the fronts... Uh... If you don't have a set that will do at least down to 60 with authority, you don't know what you are doing anyway...

Mate that with a subwoofer crossover point of about 50hz or lower, and hrm...

Mark_ab has you to the wall on this one - I don't think you know what you are doing with the driver.

One of the local competitors here took home second at world finals with your muddy w7's - guess he knows something you don't... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

anyone have an answer?

nothing important... you won't be able to hear the difference...

basically, how much signal does it take... at that level, they're both so high, you won't be able to tell teh difference, guaranteed

you will be fine with that alternator. you're almost deffinately not going to need a new battery, alternator, or capacitor. that is unless you have a lot of other electrical stuff in your car like power windows air conditioning dvd players component amps etc.

the JL 1000/1 is the ideal match for the W7.....but i have heard that the new viper amps can run at 1 ohm all day and night, pushing 1000 watts also. does anyone else know about the vipers? peace.
