Digital Designs 40hz box tuning

DD/AQ users chime in plz..I always wanted to understand this, and buy a AQ sub. so the suspension stops the sub from falling apart below tuning, but doesnt the tuning frequency determine how low the sub will play(ie.ported enclosures fall off below tuning rapidly). will a DD/AQ pay lows as well tuned to 40hz, compared to other subs tuned to say 30-32hz? even though the DD wont blow below tuning, doesnt the enclosure still unload, and the cone moves without much output?
I was told by a guy that the sub (AQ) will play 1 octave below the tuning. He said that was 12 hz. So basing it off of that a box tuned to 40 hz will hit plenty of lows.

I am going to try it because most ppl here agree that DD and AQ subs perform a bit differently in that environment. I can always retune if I leave the top panel of my box just screwed in and removable and then glue it once I am satisfied. I have the 1508 on order with the carbon fiber dust cap, the pics look sweet since the dust cap covers almost the entire cone which gives it a very unique look.
give that 1508 some time to break in and yu should be quite happy with it. to be honest mine sounded like *** for the first 30 to 60 mins. over a week later now, and changing out the amp from an mtx 6500d to an mtx 81000d and imo that is one badd *** 8". what kind of car are you putting it in?

Putting it in a Camry. What is the difference between the T1508 and just the 1508, there is almost an inch difference in mounting depth? Also how much room behind the vented magnet should there be...an inch or .25 of an inch?

at least .75" for vent clearence and i dont know too much about the t1508. i dont know how the 1508 will sound in a trunked car, mine is in an suv and i would think that there would be a little less output in a trunk but thats just mabie.

what kind of power do you have and could your fork out for a second?

Actually the shit you call music sounds like *** no matter what the box is tuned to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
Well i bet i would hate the shit you listen too

o/s swisha house and texas chopped ftmfw!

if this helps any, my box is:

w-25.5"

t-10"

d-12"

and my port is:

t-8.5"

w-1.75"

l-23"

if you want to go for the 40hz tuning make the port 19" long

here is a pic of the finished product-

most music doesn't play below about 40Hz anyway,
Have you listened to anything good lately?

Most good rap songs are now in the high 20's to mid 30's range.

J Money - Secret Agent (33hz)

T.I. - every Chance I Get (26hz)

Willie Da Kid - Love For Money (27hz)

lol, well thats quite the oxymoron //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif lol

Some of you dont seem to realize that a stiffer suspension = lower efficiency. I find it odd so many people were offended by the low efficiency comment made about DD drivers, and then retorted with the idea that they aren't inefficient, they just have stiff suspension. Oookay? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Read the description from DD themselves on their designs, as posted above in a quote. They design speakers that they say will still play low in small enclosures. If you understand Hoffman's Iron Law, you understand that DD basically admitted they tend to design low efficiency speakers.

Lastly, many of you seem to act like the term 'low efficiency' is an insult to the speakers. Again if you understand Hoffman's Iron Law you would understand that many times low efficiency is actually desirable depending on the design intent of the driver in question.
I dont think it was the fact he said they were inefficient, but the fact that he said they need to be tuned to 40 hertz in order to have any kind of output. That alone shows he is just another noob trolling the forums.. In all honesty, I dont think they are that inefficient to begin with, there are much worse efficiency ratings out there on other subs..

Just remember that efficiency ratings mean almost nothing for a subwoofer. They are tested at 1khz, far above any freq range a sub will ever be expected to play. And once placed in an enclosure, the box itself and the relationship between the box and driver will play a much larger role in over all system efficiency than will the raw driver efficiency itself.

Yep //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Try a DD2512 in ~2.25cuft "tuned" to 40hz w/ 800-1200wrms.

(cough...in a small trunk car...cough)

Hell of an all around single sub setup.

I was going to say the same thing.

T1508 is a shorter version for smaller spaces, Less mounting depth.

WE just sent 2 2512's out the door in an 07 mustang. Memphis PR 1000.1 on them. Made lots of noise. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
