Digital Designs 40hz box tuning

Im curious... Efficiency for Speakers is translated to sensitivity correct?. so how is a sub with umm 92-94 db sensitivity a inefficient sub?. on top of tha, im pretty sure that the higher tuning is due to the higher FS ratings on there subwoofer products.

Sensitivity of a sub isn't the end-all, be-all spec that people try to make it out to be.

DD recommends that tuning because of the design of their subs. They know their product better than anyone else.

High tuning is for fegz

Actually I don't like anything over 35Hz for daily.

But it depends on the sub, and the goal you want to reach. I know a few people who drive daily with a 38-40 hz tuning

DD recommend 40Hz tuning because the subs are so inefficient its the only way you can get a half reasonable output from them.
lol

Learn what you are talking about before you babble nonsense.

According to DD's website, they use a really strong suspension to control cone movement rather than relying on the box for loading. Well, I'll just copy and paste all the info rather than attempt to summarize it.

In order to get the most performance from these non-optimum applications we have taken a different approach. We keep the moving mass low, energy high and add a suspension with high restoring force to help control cone motion. This means that the subs will not have to rely on the box for their loading.

The vehicle itself will offer some loading to the system, and the transfer function will make the system play an octave lower than the tuning freq. So, if you could find some speakers that could stay in control below the box tuning, subs that are really tuned to the box loading plus the car loading, you could design a system to play low. loud and do it in a relatively small box. That is what we designed and spent many years developing.

92 - 94? lol
more like 82 - 84dB @1w/1m
What speakers are you comparing them to?

A DD 9512 has a sensitivity of 89 dbs, a Kicker CompVX has a sensitivity of 87 dbs, an RF T2 has a sensitivity of 85 dbs, Alpine Type-R 85 dbs, AA Chaos 86 dbs.

I don't see your point.

How many have you owned/built enclosures for? I'll guess ZERO, since you have NO ****ing clue what you're talking about.

Either share some real world examples or shut the **** up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I run AQ's tuned to 40Hz in my daily set up. They sound very good on all types of music and get plenty loud. My car peaks well below box tuning, so maybe that's why it works so well. Tuned to 38Hz I peaked at 34Hz doing a 149. I've done a LOT of boxes at 38Hz for DD/AQ subs and everyone is happy with the output down low, so maybe the guys at DD know what they're doing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

so is DD/AQ claiming that because their suspension is so strong that they will play fine below tuning frequency?
yes, which they will (chuck in some bass boost)

but its really the other way around.

the suspension is so still, that they suggest tuning higher to get the output up.

90% of people will be happy with a sub that only plays loud to 40Hz, because most music doesn't go below that anyway.

if they suggested tuning to 30Hz, and lost a heap of output at 40Hz, then no one will be happy!
