Digital Designs 40hz box tuning

yes, which they will (chuck in some bass boost)
but its really the other way around.

the suspension is so still, that they suggest tuning higher to get the output up.

90% of people will be happy with a sub that only plays loud to 40Hz, because most music doesn't go below that anyway.

if they suggested tuning to 30Hz, and lost a heap of output at 40Hz, then no one will be happy!
WOW OK The king is here folks listen and learn..

DD/AQ users chime in plz..I always wanted to understand this, and buy a AQ sub. so the suspension stops the sub from falling apart below tuning, but doesnt the tuning frequency determine how low the sub will play(ie.ported enclosures fall off below tuning rapidly). will a DD/AQ pay lows as well tuned to 40hz, compared to other subs tuned to say 30-32hz? even though the DD wont blow below tuning, doesnt the enclosure still unload, and the cone moves without much output?

ive built 2 boxes for my 512's, first was tuned to 35hz w/ 42sq in of port 2nd was 40hz and around 60sq in of port..

roughly the same output, played very well at both, the 60sq in box is a little sloppier for kick drums and most rock music, but its still tolerable considering im about 90/10 rap/rock.. cant complain.

Currently run a DD 1008a in a Vitveet built box tuned to 33.5hz and I couldnt be happier. It has more output than I would have ever imagined and hits the lows like I didnt think an 8 could. I dont know about the 40hz tuning, this is the first DD sub I have ever owned and tuned to 33.5 hz I think I am in love.

build the 40hz box. How big will it be for a 1508 anyway? If you don't like it, tune lower next time. Their subs; their box specs, yes they are different.
so is the strong suspension just protection below box tuning,or is there truly output there as compared to a different sub tuned lower?

lol
Learn what you are talking about before you babble nonsense.

According to DD's website, they use a really strong suspension to control cone movement rather than relying on the box for loading. Well, I'll just copy and paste all the info rather than attempt to summarize it.
I'm sure he has been building and designing subs longer than DD so he might know what he's talking about.....but for some reason I seriously doubt it....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

The suspension helps the sub play below tuning but it'll take someone at DD to answer that question; their number is on their site, 8-5 M-F

I haven't hooked one to my WT3 but I should in order to give a definitive answer.

I've tuned boxes with 9515's higher for burps and plugged ports for daily. They sounded great. My spec 9917 box sounded great and could do a 154.

The 40hz tuning is just a recommended box.

Its a good place for beginners to start....how many of you have the kicker recommended box w/ your solos???

"On-paper" tuning can mean little to nothing in many cases.

DD's do very well below tuning...when in the proper box.
