Efficiency is not just about output, nor does it have to equal output. efficiency is where you are matching the impedance of the system, not to just use the most output out of the amplifier to subwoofer, but for high quality output, not just high output. it is common to refer efficiency to output when directing it to SPL setups, but it's a little more when considering SQ output. But I know what your saying though. I just wanted to add that in there, not correcting you.

 
Same for me Buck. I consider SQ as a quality reproduction of a recording; not an attenuated or amplified reproduction. SQL sounds like the best acronym for playing high volume, accurate reproduction of a recording. If it's capable of reaching levels beyond the threshold of someones hearing at the headrest position, then it should really be designed around a listening position outside the car; where the soundstage suffers dramatically. Again, if it can't create the imaging accurately, then it's not a real "SQ" car. It's just a car that sounds good. Like home audio systems that consist of extremely expensive components. Most of them cannot create an accurate soundstage. Not to mention that they are all cookie cutters just like car audio manufacturers' "recommended boxes".

 
When I say efficiency I mean no losses in transferring the signal..

The big problem with high output is higher inductance, thermal power compression, getting a linear as possible cms curve and having a flat bl curve..

If you do all of those things you can have low distortion and high output..
