Decent entry level priced rifles?

PSE= Peice (of) Sh*t Equipment

I smoked two deer within a week of eachother with my Fred bear charge. Tuned in at 65lbs @ 35 yards, I hit the first one broad side and double lunged it and second one was @42 yards. I hit that one in the liver and came out the side of it's *** because it bucked when I hit it. But point is both arrow blew through both at long distances which is plenty good for me

Compound bows, IMO, make it too easy. Archery in general isn't easy but compound compared to traditional is much easier. You have a point of no resistance at final draw, all of these scopes and doo dads that make the aarow fly straight as a bullet. Try doin the same thig with a self bow

What kind of action and distance are you wanting to shoot. Does a bolt action bother you or you looking for an auto? Remington 700, Winchester 100's and Browning A-bolts are all good shooting bolt actions.

How far are you wanting to shoot? If you aren't looking for much more than 100 yard .22 will work. smaller rounds like .223 and 22.250's are very fast and pretty accurate several hundred yard(the Army did any internal investigation in Iraq because of all the head shots. Then the investigators went in the field and witnesses a couple headshots from 300yrds with an M4 when the terrorist would peek from the windows it was dropped) The rounds are light and get blown around by the wind. THis is a big issue with 17HMR's.

Most big center fire rounds like 30-06, 308, 270, 30-30 are going to cost $15-20/box of 20 target ball ammo at Walmart.Atleast for decent ammo, Wolf can be had for cheaper. Sometimes cheaperthandirt.com has some pretty good deals on ammo. The only real way to get cheap ammo is getting is military calibers 5.56x39=223 and 7.62x51=308 (more of less).

My buddy is saving for a .338 lapua. 2K for the gun and 2.5K for the Nightforce scope needed to clearly see the 1900yds he is wanting shoot it. Maybe he will have it by deer season. I want to see deer turned inside out.

Ruger mini 14/223 been a great gun for the money...amo isnt all that expensive..my ak 47 is/has been a great gun,and an sks would be a good/fair gun to grab up/both use 7.62/39,and ammo is really cheap..ak is the most reliable..my savage 30/06 is dead on balls of a gun,and my savage 7mm mag..i route for the ak myself

id stay away from 308, unless you have a humidified stock place for it..ammo was non existant/hard to find when the SHOCK N AWE was going on.Military had it all seized up at the time..sure was glad i had my 7.62x39,and 223 rounds available??

^good point, military uses .308 so you compete with them for ammo.

compound bows give you speed and accuracy using the latest science. the recurve bow is great and certainly hunt-worthy using the classic design. compound are easy to shoot, a novice can grab a nice bow and with a few months of practicing be robin-hooding arrows consistently. you just don't shoot the same bullseye twice.

you either want a bow/gun that is as fast and accurate as science can provide, or you want to rock a classic that challenges you as a shooter. both have their place, but someone isn't teh gayness for liking one or the other. it's personal choice and all do the job.

if you like the longbow, do you also shoot smokepole?

Ruger 10/22's are a blast and cheap to build and shoot. This is my last one, sold it for $700 including the case and 3 25-round magazines. Never had a fail to feed or fail to fire and my brother took it out using Velocitator ammo and killed a Whitetail deer with it...surprising for sure, he shot it right in the eye at 100 yards.

why would they take all the .308 but not the 5.56? All of the carry rifles are m16's and m4's which fire 5.56?
