Decent entry level priced rifles?

id stay away from 308, unless you have a humidified stock place for it..ammo was non existant/hard to find when the SHOCK N AWE was going on.Military had it all seized up at the time..sure was glad i had my 7.62x39,and 223 rounds available??
True if you are using 147gr ball ammo.....

In our LR guns, we use 178gr hp(out to 1k meters) but I have had no problems getting 150gr and 165gr rounds.

IMO, if you are just starting out, get your self a Ruger 10/22. Can not go wrong and there are millions of parts and hop ups!

Stick with the older 10/22's as the newer ones have too much plastic...

who says he was hunting. I know plent of people that poach. If the deer are bothering crops you have the right to shoot them as a pest you just can't take the meat off that property. My dad got a 17HMR that he drops deer with if they are on our alfalfa. We have counted as many a 68 in a 2 acre patch.

On the military rounds, yes you do have to compete with the government but there is alot more of it being made. You can also get other countries surplus. You do need to research some of it. Like South African surplus is corrosive because they use tar as packing between the powder and the lead. I know with because my PTR91 came with a paper saying that South African surplus would void the warrentee.
