DC 2.0 Protect mode

Do you think something is wrong with this amp for it going into protect mode with the DMM only hooked to it?

I personally do not understand why it would go into protect regardless what setting I have the DMM on?

Personally where my clip light is coming on I firmly believe it is wrong.
There is not a chance in hell that I am sending clipping to the sub at the points when it says it is. This setup should be doing SO much more before the remote chance of clipping is possible than what its doing right now.

I am deff going to buy the remote knob in the link I posted earlier, and am going to ditch this bogus light fixture that they call a bass knob.

Tomorrow morning I shall check the gains with the DMM attached with the sub running and I will go from there. I know I am operating at about 60% I would say.
Bro, you do realize that clipping isn't necessarily proportional to perceived volume right? The way you've worded this, you don't.

The clipping light may not be super accurate, but as testing has shown, it's a ballpark.

I used that same DC knob Doug had on that 2.0k. It worked pretty good for what it is. Only time I ever sent that 2.0k into protect was from gain too high.
Mine would go into protect when my voltage was too high. I had a DC Power 270XP running to a Yellowtop to my amp. The Yellowtop's resting voltage was 12.2V (bought new 4 months ago, probably won't buy an Optima again), and when my car was first started my 270XP would charge around 15.2V until it warmed up and charged the battery a little. The 2.0k would kick into protect if voltage was 15.2V or above, and also if I tried to push it if voltage was over 14.8V.

well first off the remote clip lights are pretty acurate ,the knob your looking to get is a gain control knob which can sometimes defeat the purpose of setting your gains properly.if your amp is shutting down ,i agree with gcleck sounds like you maybe doing something wrong.

Ok if you run the PAC LC1, and set the gains with the knob on MAX then at your max setting you will never go above your max gain setting correct?

As far as the DC light then how could it be clipping at such a low volume? Are you saying like the gains being too high can cause clipping even at low knob levels where as if the gains were set lower the knob could be turned higher without clipping?

I really am lost right now not knowing what the amp is sending the sub as I have nothing to reference too.

I don't know anyone in my area with a DD1 or Oscope. I am willing to drive a decent distance but my area ***** and it seems most people on the forums are west coast.

actually there is alot of guy son your end , if the deck is sending a clipped signal then the amp just amplifies it ,hence the clip light comes on at low volume . i would measure the signal from the deck first see if that is the issue ,just might be ,leave all the bass boosts and loudness off and the eq settings flat ,then measure .

Really any piece of gear that alters the waveform has the possibility to induce clipping.

This.

OP, I just noticed which HU you are using. Those DVD units typically do not have good quality audio, and it's very possible you are not getting a super clean signal out of your HU. Ensure all boosts and loudness are off, as mylows has said. Make sure you are measuring the speaker connections with AC.
@mylows10 its the amp i bought off of you in april, so i dont think its the amp thats the problem.
I agree, doubt it's the amp. Just a matter of settings.

I really appreciate all the input you guys are providing.
What options do I have to clean up the signal coming form my deck?
Either get a new HU, or find what the max volume is before clipping starts on yours. This will be with bass boost off, loudness off, EQ flat, etc. Might try to search around the internet, maybe someone has done tests on that deck. Other than that, DD1 or oscope are the only 2 ways I know to find it. And as far as I know, there is no way to smooth out a clipped wave.

From what I have read, they start to clip at 36 out of 40. I never go over 30. I set the gains on my interior amp at 28 and that works well. If I get to 30 the music is BLARING and I don't like it that loud. However it is sending a clean signal from what I can tell, there is no audible distortion and my music sounds fantastic.

That is why I set my sub amp at around 28 as well. Normally I set it around 28 with the bass knob at 70%. That way I have some leeway on rock songs with less bass and then also with some rap songs that are not as hard hitting as well.
