crossover question

Im just wondering if I have my crossover for my 5.25 type-x components set up right on my amp. My sub is set at 80hz, what should I set my components at? Newb question i know, just making sure i have it all set up right... not getting much midrange from them. thanks.

Too many factors involved to answer this over the internet.

It needs to be set to whatever sounds best in your specific install.

It's just one of those things your going to have to grab some music you're familiar with, sit out in the car for a bit and play with the xover until you find the setting that sounds best.

Are you lacking midbass output? Or midrange?

Where are the speakers installed?

Have you applied any sound deadening to the vehicle?

they are installed in the door. and no, i don't have any sound deadening, though i wish i did.

are you running active or passive? Sounds to me like your trying to run you passive components actively. Please correct me if im wrong

I have my components hooked up to their crossovers that came with them and then to the amp... that's all, my h/u has no crossover in it. have a cda-9835 in the mail right now coming to me.

Read the deadening sticky at the top of this section. It's a must-do if increasing sonic performance is your goal.

5.25" drivers can have more than adequate midbass....but it's all in the install. Solidify the mounting surface. Sound deaden the doors properly. Play with the phasing of the drivers. If you have a sub; properly level match it with the front stage and take time in selecting your xover points.

ok, another question. Im getting a cda-9835 tomorrow and am just wondering, should I do 2-way active? or keep my passive crossovers that the type-x came with? would the 2way active sound better? Should I not use the crossover on the H/U if I use the speaker crossovers? Thanks again.

So far from what I've read in this thread; you sound like you are a novice. That's not an insult....you just have a lot of learning and experience yet to gain.

As such; I would suggest sticking with the passive setup....atleast for now. Active setups can truly be a headache to tune properly, and a good passive setup will sound much better than a poorly setup active system.

So, my advise is to stick passive for now until you gain a little more knowledge and experience. Once you have a little better grasp on how to properly tune and setup a stereo....then try active.

You can use the HU's internal xover to highpass the comp set. If you are running passive, that is all you will need to do.

I would recoomend you run your wires and put the crossover where your amp is. That way if you decide to go active, all your speaker wires are where they need to be

What if persay your components have passive crossovers, and their built into the speaker:ie Boston SL-80 5x7 plates? You can't hook them up without going through the crossover..Then my HU Kenwood has active crossovers in it as well...and last but not least my 4 channel amp also has lo-pass high-pass as well...So I'm in a quandrey on how to tune the specific components that I run..I've read the sticky but it dosen't help in this situation..

You'd have to cut leads on your speakers to run them active. In your case, if you want better sound it is pretty simple though as you should get rid of the plates and buy some components. Then you can run active or passive.
