Crossover Amp Settings?

I know this question might seem like it is in the wrong forum, but it deals more with the P880 (what other head unit is there around here lately, anyways? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif )

I was wondering if my SQ would be better if I set my amp to all pass for my speakers (6.5" and 6 x 9" 3-way Kappa's) and then just use the crossover settings on the HU to adjust the crossover frequency rather than by the amp.

or maybe the SQ wouldn't change but the ease of just having the adjustment in the front rather than in my trunk. The amp I have is a Kicker KX350.4.

definately leave it to the HU.

1. why send the signal all the way to the amp only for a certain range to be cut out when you could just cut it out at the HU? might be petty but why waste the bandwidth of the rca for unnecessary signals?

2. leaves xover control at the HU

There's no one answer to this question. In some installs, it may be better to use the amplifier's xovers instead of the headunit's since the amplifier's is likely completely variable, while the HU only has predefined frequencies that can be selected. Likewise, in other installs it may be better to use the headunit's xovers instead of the amplifier's, since it might (for example) have a steeper slope. While in other installs, using a combination of both the headunit's xover and the amplifier's xover will obtain the best results.

There's no right or wrong, yes or no answer here. It's all about what crossover (or combination thereof) results in the best sound for your particular vehicle, your particular installation with your particular equipment.

It's something you just need to play with until you find what you like best.
