Crimping together a wiring harness and wiring harness adapter questions?

I bought a new stereo for my truck and it came with a wiring harness adapter that is specific for my truck. Im crimping the adapter to the original wiring harness using butt connectors.

I stripped, cut and crimped all the wires as needed and got it all together. But i noticed the adapter had aditional wires that the original wiring harness did not have. The adapter has 1 brown wire and 1 orange wire that the original harness doesnt have. My first question is do i just leave those 2 wires alone and dont connect them to anything?

Another thing i noticed is the wiring harness has one big yellow wire, and the adapter has 2 small yellow wires. Do i crimp all 3 of these together or what? The wiring harness also has one big black wire, while the adapter has 2 small black wires. Again, do i crimp all 3 together or what?

Here's a picture of the 3 yellow wires: Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Here's a picture of the orange and brown wire that i have nothing to connect to: Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Also, how effective is crimping wires together? What are the chances that i messed something up? I'm really paranoid that i messed this up and its not going to work and ill have wasted a bunch of money. Can i also get some tips on making sure it will work? What could i have messed up?

If needed: The stereo is a pioneer deh2200, and my vehicle is a 2003 dodge ram 2500 quad cab.

Only advice I am going to give on this is don't use butt connectors. Learn how to solder and do it right. You will thank me in the long run.
Thanks for the input, but do you have any other help regaurding my confusion with the extra wires?

Nope.

Maybe you could find a wiring diagram online. That would be your best bet.

Also post the stereo brand/ model number, and car type. Maybe someone here has a diagram.

Okay thanks, i'll post the stereo and stuff. and i'll go back to googling. (this is my first install, ive been going crazy with google. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif)

I understand. It can be confusing at first. But seriously, you need a diagram. It seems every (or almost every) car is different for color codes. Where did you buy the stereo at? If it is new it should have come with a diagram.

I did buy it new on the internet at sonicelectronics.com. It did come with diagrams as far as installing it in the dash, but nothing specific about connecting the wiring harness adapter. :/

Orange is for dimmer. Brown is for steering wheel controls for specific vehicles. Leave them alone.
Okay thanks, that solves one of my problems. Just need to know what to do about the 6 yellow and black wires.

Black is ground and yellow is backup accessory or a 12v I believe.
Yeah, i figured they had something to do with the power, but i just need to know what to do about crimping them together. i've never heard of 3 wires being crimped together, so i'm not sure if thats what im supposed to do or not.

Are you sure you got the right harness? Im almost positive the Dodge vehicles need a CanBus harness.

EDIT- Found your issue.

There is only 1 black and 1 yellow. There is a black wire that is supposed to go back into the harness and a yellow that does the same thing. Looks like you need to contact the place of purchase and get a new one.

Do any of the black wires have a white stripe?
I'm pretty sure it's the right harness. But i don't know what kind of harness it is. There is one wire that is black and white, but i already crimped that together, because the adapter harness and the original harness both had the same wire. But about the 3 black wires im having trouble with, no none of those have a white stripe.

Can you post a picture of both of the wiring diagrams?
I dont have any diagrams about connecting the adapter to the original harness, thats my problem. xD But i will post a picture of the adapter and what im trying to crimp it too, if thats what you're asking for.
