Could my sub sound better with a different box?

I have a 12" RF P3 powered by a Kenwood amp at 500w RMSx1 @ 2 ohms.

I bought a cheap pre-made box from sonicelectronix.com ( http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7498_Sonic+Sub+Box-+1SV12.html )

I don't think my sub sounds as loud as it could. Am I using the wrong box for my sub? Sorry for the newbish questions.

the sub box looks like a normal ported box. what you need to do is find the air space needed for your sub and if the box is too big or too small then you need to get a different box..... good luck

air space may be fairly close for that sub. not sure what the port is tuned to on that box. possibly is tuned too high. lacking a little bit of port area as well. a good box will sound better. those subs aren't the best subs around. i was really unimpressed with rockford subs. not the best in their price range.

Be wary of the premades... I have a buddy who bought a pre-fab ported box for his Premiers because someone at a stereo shop told him to (the friggin box was barely bigger than the subs) and now they have about as much low-end punch as a girly prepubescent boy. Check the Rockford website or the manual your subs came with as far as recommended airspace/tuning and go from there...
