Ok so for a head unit I have a Alpine TDM-7582:

http://reviews.cnet.com/in-dash-car-stereos/alpine-tdm-7582-radio/1707-6729_7-30231919.html

Right now I have two front speakers (JLs) powered by an amp which is an Alpine Somthing:

(the 2 rear speakers go right to the head unit + 6 Disc Changer)

I just bought a 12" Pioneer subwoofer:

And I am just wondering if I could still install another amp and power the sub off that or should I use the amp powering the 2 front speakers... what should I do? Do I need a new head unit + another amp or what? Please help.

(im not sure what the wattage is on the alpine amp right now) + (willing to buy what ever I need)

Ok I'm assuming you only have a two channel amp for your front speakers being powered. If that alpine amp is only a two channel amp then tie your front and rear left speakers into one positive and negatve and the right frot and left speakers into the right pos and neg terminal. So your going to have two wires going into the left postivr. Two wires in the left neg. Two wires in the right pos and two wires in the right neg terminal. 8 wires total since you'll have four speakers. Then like the guy above me said. Go buy a separate amp for your sub.

You need to get a new head unit if it only puts out one set of rcas. I've never even heard of an aftermarket head unit that only puts out 1 set. usually they will have 2 sets one for front one for rear, and you can use the rear for the subwoofer if it's interchangable. But if you want to keep your head unit, buy a line out converter or hi/low converter (same thing). Basically its a little box that has two female rcas coming out of it and 4 wires. the 4 wires are for the left positive and neg speaker wires and the right pos and neg speaker wires. use both the positives from the left and right (grey and white) speaker wires coming out of the line out converter and tap into the positive speaker wire from one of your rear speakers and do the same for the negatives. With this you can now get another amp for your sub and hook your rca's directly into that line out converter. PM me if you have any other questions. This stupid forum doesn't email me when someone else has replied ot the thread

You can wire two amps to one Preout easily. 9/10 amps will have an RCA output, just run an RCA cable from the pre-out to the first amp, then a short one to the inputs of the second from the outputs of the first.. If neither of your amps have outputs than you can always get a Y-splitter from walmart for 10.00 and just split it. And also, you should never tie in double wires unless you know what you're doing. If his amp isn't 2 ohm stable (it probably is) then his amp probably wouldn't last very long before it blew.

OP:

It's probably best you just get another amp to power the sub. It's not hard to do assuming you have big enough wiring for it. What gauge is your power wire?

I was just looking through the menus on my head unit and theres nothing to do with a SUB would I just have to adjust it by using the bass control?
