computer speakers....

let me make sure im understanding this right...run a wire from the t-amps terminals , with the 3"s connected, to the plate amps hi-level inputs?

yep , thats the combo i was looking at.

I will make a quick drawing and post it to show you. Give me a minute.
would building a set up from parts express end up being a louder, better sounding system than buying a setup from something like jbl or logitech
Well, depends on what drivers you buy but I'd say yes. Overall, yes. Sure the quality might not be as good but eh. DIY > premade //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/santa.gif.e1ec9cf2e0a0dd232ad35aa594a126d0.gif

That's a quick drawing. Basically, you take the speaker outs on the amp to the plate amps high level in FROM AMP inputs and then run wire from the plate amp high leve out TO SPEAKER to the speakers themselves.

See?

this will be my first time doing something like this. i know ill probably end up getting a different amp or maybe a reciever later on...

Man, all these DIYs are making me want to make some bookshelf speakers.
I have a new powered sub (here today just waiting on university mail services to get it to me) and my little Pioneers **** for bookshelfs.

EDIT: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-809 somebody jump on these. I wish I had a fn credit card. That's all I need. Something little to play with.

those are what i ordered. CC for the win.

i want to get another pair though. like those TB's with the bamboo composite cone and the neo motor...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

also , the cutout for the speakers are 3 1/16". should i just get a 3" hole saw and sand 1/32 of an inch all the way around or hit it with a jigsaw? i have no router.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

If you already have the hole saw, go for it. I personally find using them with mdf difficult since the cutout seems to expand and get stuck in the now very hot hole saw. Either should work if you use a sanding drum to get them to fit perfectly.

Is the glue on the threads or something? I usually just wait for it to dry then peel off.

i dont have the hole saw yet, which is why i asked. we got em at work (sears) for around 20 for the 3". already have a jigsaw. i need a table saw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

the glue....its just generally all over it , lol. but whats on the threads is what makes it a pita. its dried up and just stuck in there. i tried to get at it with a blade but its not going anywhere. id imagine some type of solvent should clean it up...

Where'd your mdf come from? I've been seeing a lot more of this cardboard-colored mdf around lately. (Compared to the yellow-ish stuff I'm used to) Smells like wood glue instead of formaldehyde and doesn't seem as dense. Sucks up water drips like a rag.

my mdf comes from Home Depot. same quality as its always been. smells the same too , lol. i know this cause i usually leave the wood in my truck for that day till i start the project and it leaves my truck smelling....wood-ish.

speakers came today pics up in a few.....

i noticed on both the speakers , the terminals stick out some so theyd have to be pulled back to be able to mount properly. build quality looks great.

amp is built of all plactic but has a solid feel to it. i didnt purchase a 12v ac adapter so ill be running it off some rechargable AA's till i can find one. it came with a ~1-1.5ft 3.5mm stereo plug, so for most, a longer one would be required.

the glue will be sanded off the boxes, btw. still not sure on paint color.

question-

as of now , i have 14g , 16g and some 20 or 22g speaker wire laying around...could i get away with using the 20/22g?

got the speakers in and connected.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

they sound great. little to no bass but you cant expect any from 3" speakers. clarity is good.

when i made the cutout with the jigsaw i was a little off so they arnt mounting flush making them sound a little 'airy'. but thatll be taken care of when i get the time. other than that theyre great. id say it was worth the money i spent.

ill get pics/vids when i can.
