Choosing Electrical Upgrades

heh.
I would like to know of the best possible electrical upgrade, while still being efficient and not get too pricey.

  • I have the big three done with 0awg.
  • I have a 0awg line to my trunk.
  • I have a decent battery under the hood.
  • I have 190 max amps current draw.
  • I have a 80 amp alternator.

I am considering any/all of the following:

  • Yellow top under the hood
  • Yellow top in trunk with stock battery under hood and isolator
  • Excessive Amperage HO Alternator
Can someone tell me what the best way to do this would be?

How much is an isolator?

How does an isolator work? (please, if possible, save yourself the time and refer me to another site)

If my car is off, does the car draw power from the stock battery, the yellow top, or both, if there is the isolator?

Thank you very much!

Brian

Get the alt

lol but i'm dumbfounded on what i'd need to do with the isolator, or what the isolator would do, and if i'd be better off running with the stock battery under hood and yellow top in trunk, or just the yellow top under hood, and if there are any drawbacks to having a battery in your trunk, if there is anything that is going to be wrong by having a yellow top in my trunk, etc etc

ohh yeaaah the blue top

i hear it's less expensive? and is the same internally as the yellow top?

what do you know?

and the SoundDomain forums have a group buy through ExcessiveAmperage through the 30th of this month... you can save plenty of money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

let me know about the blue top

Theres nothing wrong with running a battery in the trunk, unless you count the added weight of a battery and a few yards of 1/0 gauge to that battery. If you get a 2nd battery, an isolator would be a good idea. Isolator info: http://www.bcae1.com/battiso.htm A battery in your trunk can make wiring easier too since you can just run the positive and negative directly to the amps from the battery; less grounding issues.

right right, alternator is the first upgrade, will happen by the end of this month.

but... i want to stabalize with a yellow/blue top either in the trunk or under the dash.

Now that I think about it, yellow top in the trunk would be fantastic //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Just get the alternator and replace the stock battery with a yellow or blue top. Just like I told ya last night brian //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If you keep the stock batt and ADD a deep cycle...like stated you would HAVE to run an isolator...hence even MORE money. (Alternators do NOT like to charge a regular AND a deep cycle in parallel //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif )

So, Excessive Amperage (or Iraggi...whichever is cheaper) 200 amp alternator and a Yellow/Blue top under the hood. Shouldn't be more than $400 all together //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
