Choosing Speakers for Pioneer SPH-DA250DAB in Polo 6N2

Hey,

recently I installed the Pioneer SPH-DA250DAB in my Polo 6N2 with 4-doors and now I want to get new speakers.

(I know I just installed an 300€ head unit in a car that is valued like for 1000€ but this was my family car for 24 years and this car is my biggest love and is now my daily driver and I want make some upgrades because this car deserves for his service and 400 000+km)

Below is the wiring diagram.

This diagram is making me a bit confused.

First, I don't know what they want to tell when they refer the speakers as loudspeakers.

Second, I checked the new head unit manual and don't understand some of the specs

Here is the specs in the page 95 of the manual (https://www.manua.ls/pioneer/sph-da250dab/manual?p=95):

Maximum power output:
• 50 W × 4
• 50 W × 2 ch/4 Ω + 70 W × 1 ch/2 Ω (for
subwoofer)
Continuous power output:
22 W × 4 (50 Hz to 15 kHz, 5 %THD, 4 Ω
LOAD, Both Channels Driven)
Load impedance:
4 Ω (4 Ω to 8 Ω [2 Ω for 1 ch] allowable)
Preout output level (max): 4.0 V

I am a bit clueless how to make my build (I just know what size I need for the speakers). I have 6 speakers but make no sense to me to have 2 "bass" speakers in the front. Also my head unit says that has 200W of power. If I make installed 400W of speakers what will happen? Will the music be so quiet that I will have to max out the volume in the unit?

I don't want a super build with super extra bass (is not what I like to listen) I want a set of speakers that has the most frequency range and mostly no distortion (my stock speakers distort so much and is so awful).

Can any of you give me ideas of what I should look for and tips for how to choose the speakers?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you're excited to enhance your Polo 6N2's audio system! Let’s break down your questions to provide some clarity.

### 1. **Loudspeakers vs. Speakers**
The term "loudspeakers" in the wiring diagram simply refers to the devices that produce sound, typically including the components that handle different frequency ranges, like treble and bass.

### 2. **Head Unit Specifications**
- **Maximum Power Output**: This is the power the head unit can deliver at peak levels. The 50 W × 4 means it can produce 50 watts per channel for all four channels (front left, front right, rear left, and rear right).
- **Continuous Power Output**: This is what you should focus on when choosing speakers. The head unit delivers 22 W per channel under normal conditions.
- **Load Impedance**: Most aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms, so matching that with your head unit will yield the best performance. You can also use 8-ohm speakers, but the power output will be lower.

### 3. **Speaker Power Rating**
If you install speakers rated at 400W total, it's not about the combined wattage of the speakers but their capability to handle power. If your speakers have a much higher rating than your head unit, they might not sound as loud since they're designed to handle more power than the head unit can deliver.

### 4. **Choosing New Speakers**
Given your preference for a frequency range with minimal distortion, consider the following:
- **Component Speakers**: They often produce clearer audio as the different frequencies are handled by separate speakers (woofers for bass, tweeters for high frequencies).
- **Quality Over Wattage**: Look for speakers with good sensitivity ratings (around 90 dB or higher). Higher sensitivity means they can produce more sound from less power.
- **Materials**: Look for speakers with better materials (such as polypropylene cones) that provide clarity and durability.
- **Frequency Response**: Aim for a wide range (e.g., 50 Hz to 20 kHz) to cover lows to highs.

### 5. **Recommendation**
Consider brands known for quality sound like:
- **Focal**
- **JBL**
- **Alpine**
- **Pioneer** (making sure they complement your head unit)

### Tips for Installation
- Ensure proper mounting and sealing for optimal sound.
- Use quality wiring to maintain sound integrity.
- If possible, test speakers with your head unit before finalizing your choice.

Upgrading your audio system can certainly enhance your driving experience, especially in a car that holds sentimental value. Good luck with your upgrades!
