Chevy Cavaliers?

I bought one for $200 that wasn't running, had been sitting for 8 months. Changed the starter, battery, ran some fuel treatment, changed the plugs and did a sea foam treatment. Runs like a champ.

Been driving it for the last 3 months.

Put 2 12"s in the boot, new speakers all the way around.

I love that car, mainly because I bought it with some profit money from selling another car, so it's completely free, including the stereo.

I had alot of complaints about cavaliers before, but now owning one, I wouldn't hesitate telling someone else to buy one.

Would I buy one for more than a grand? probably not, but that just me.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

now that i think of it , my boys mother drove a sentra , iirc. wasnt the most comfortable thing , but t did get places.

how are the cost of parts? any common issues with them?

my 2001 z24 is the only vehicle I've owned to date that hasn't given me grief in one way or another. but then it only has 95000km on it.

like others have said, treat it well and it will treat you well. the most common "major" problems are brakes and struts going prematurely, and cracked dash mounts (squeeking issue).

the 2.2ohv cavs are gutless as all hell, but the DOHC and ecotec engines aren't too bad for what they are.

as for the existence of 12 second cavaliers, go to j-body.org. you'll find more than a few.

Let me meditate on that over night. I'm so tired I can barely think straight.

Pretty much the exact same car IIRC.
NO, they are not basically the same car. I owned a 96 200sx, nice starter car without a doubt. The trunk is MUCH smaller and more restrictive then a Cavy's. It is wide and not very deep at all. With testing it did over a 150 on the TL in the kick. It also has a much nicier interior then the above. I would prefer the 200sx ANYDAY. Its a shame that an old man hit me head on. I bought it for 5k in 2003 w/ 35k. Never had an issue and was destroyed with 98k. Still got 5k from his insurance, they hold there value alot better then ^^^

Maybe I don't have much room to talk as I drive a celica...but I've never seen a guy driving a cavalier (but most celicas I've seen are driven by guys).
It's a pretty hardcore chick car. But you're right about it being cheap and good mpg and what not.
I dont know bout where you are but down here in Va Celicas are only driven by girls ONLY never have i seen a guy in a celica But you could find a 6 banger Camaro they go around here for pretty cheap I drive a z28 and i get about 20 - 23 when i jus chill

Not talking about the Cavvy stupid. The Sentra and the 200sx.

It is just as slow etc, same amount of interior room etc....

I also had the same year civic, but that seems to be out of the question for you.

It was a basic car, meaning it had power windows, locks, and cruise. It is really easy to run wires / headunit. The front plastic dash pulls off with little effort. Mine had a single din and it was a real quick swap. It has 6 1/2s all the way around. The rear seats fold down 60/40 into the trunk. The back deck rattles like hell, but after removing the top (easily) i put egg crate foam under it. After that it was dead quiet. The only issues that i had with the car is that the rear bumper sagged in the rear corners. I have noticed that it is a common thing though for these cars. After a few years with some high powered subs, the rear lock stopped working. The car ran nice, never burned oil, and always started right up. The doors on the 2dr are long and the drivers side door developed a sag after time. I ever so often would have to take a hammer and a block of wood to the hinge and knock it back to fix that issue. Other then that, i am confident that this car can out last any Cavy w/ proper care.

Here are some pictures of the car. I hope that helps
