Chaseinbass 96 GMC rebuild sort of ?

Road tested it today and I am impressed with what just two banks of caps will do to stiffen up the voltage, Its amazing ! Before I was all over the place with voltage from 15.2 to 11.8 and everywhere in between and with just two of the four banks I am pretty much going from 14.6 down to 13.2 and I am still running the ebay alts not my singers. I am really expecting good things once I get the other two banks in and my singer alts back in ! I am hobbling around on a sore knee and hoping I feel good enough this weekend to take out everything out of my tool box to move things around to make room for the other two banks and put in the buss bars I got from @anger

im betting its audibly louder too, im really enjoying watch caps proliferate because the right kind of caps (maxwell, xs, etc) impressed me and im surprised how little theyre utilized for high current draws

View attachment 26556562View attachment 26556561Worked on relocating batteries and making room for the four banks of caps and cleaning up wiring and adding the buss bars for the three batteries I am keeping. I only got to work on it till noon and it was 111 out side and said screw it and went inside. I pretty much got it all done except for making the box to hold the Caps and I will try to get it built this evening when it cools down.

that looks pretty clean, i like it. lots of caps lol im interested to see where your voltage drop will be!
I didnt get home till late so no progress tonight but I am off tomorrow. I decided to carpet the outside of box and foam line the inside of it and install tomorrow and I will report back on voltage then.

Got out early and lined the cap box with foam and carpeted it and it looks a lot better. was ready to charge them up and install but my multi meter was acting up and showing one bank resting at 27.2 ? and it was one of the two banks I already had charged and ran in truck WTF ? cheap POS meter probably. Going to find one so I can get them installed tonight.

Finally got the caps installed today. I had a little trouble charging the brand new caps in two banks up as these things are crazy, they have so little internal resistance charger will see them as a direct short and not charge them up. As long as they have even a smiggen of residual voltage in them they will charge right up. And let me tell you these things surge to charge or discharge with authority, You think a batery with a direct short sparks , but wait till you see these things !I had some extra long threaded studs for my buss bars and stuck them in so I could the bump the positive cable to them just to give them a little voltage and not arc up my buss bars and the light show is pretty intense ! LOL fried the ends studs off big time arc welder! But it did the trick and they got enough voltage in them to charge up, Thanks @wew lad. I have not had ant time to go test drive it but just sitting in the drive way and volume at 56 its not even moving off 14.2. I do expect a little drop especially with these ebay alternators. Next up fixing my singer alts and get them back in. I just got voltage regulators in the mail, just need time to work on them.

I will load the program for my spl labs meter and some tones and try to test it out tomorrow if I can.

Well I took my truck out for a drive today and lowest voltage I saw was 13.6 and thats with my replacement alts that rest at 14.2 -14.3 when I get my Singers repaired and back in should sit around 15 volts and should see a drop to around 14.3 and I will be really happy with that. I am replacing the voltage regulators and I ordered 400 watt soldering iron so I can do some Alt work in the future. I have always wanted to build some alts myself and have rebuilt stock ones many times over the years and know its not that tough once you have a few tools for testing. I am also going to run dedicated grounds to studs mounted into each alt case. and that should improve charging a little more than frame grounds I have now.

Nice!!! I stay at 14.5 dropping from 14.8....remembered I didn't get a pic last time when you asked...redid some wiring and redoing the box that goes around the caps...have them sitting on isolate it anti-vibration pads as well

Looks nice ! Freakin new caps pull some current dont they ? lol

I ordered a new set of Massive audio ct2 tweeters on @Jeffdachef recommendation and they came in today. I had some time to actually mess with them and see if they would fit in to my fiberglass A pillars and what I was going to have to do to make them fit ? I turned out that the new tweeters were exactly the same size? Wutt ? How could that happen? Well it didnt lol seem they are the same size once you take them out of the plastic bezels only they are really the body of the tweeter. so lets just say I ordered another set and I have one good back up tweeter for a spare now ha ha live and learn. It was going to be so easy too, should have been my first clue.

Looks like it would just slip right out and go right in to my existing mount ? WRONG ha ha!
