had a cd player in my car and removed it about 1 week ago and the cars wiring harness was just hanging there as it was hard wired into my deck, so tonight i decided that i would hook up my new deck and see how it looks, hooked it up and powered it on and everything was fine, i disconnected all the wires and took it back inside my house as i was not wanting to put it in until i have all my stereo so the wiring that i used to hardwire there was just hanging there and i went to start my car and all the lights come on but it sorta goes disco inside everything flashing and the security light comes on and my car will not start up.. anyone know what i did ? or is a wire grounding out or something?

any ideas on whats causing this?

It may now be a security issue.

Take key and manually lock then unlock the door. If that doesnt work it will need to be towed to the dealer.

its a 99 grand am. no monsoon stereo in it ever. my keyless entry works fine with no problems. lock or unlock no issues its when i put the car in accessory or try and start it is when the problems start.

what ones specifically are you thinking? would fuses prevent the car from starting? like when i open the doors the lights come on fine its when i put the car in accessory or to "on" its where the lights start flashing like crazy and the guages moving from left to right and they keep repeating themselves.

Check to make sure the IGN wire of the radio harness is not grounded. Only thing I can think of that would cause an issue only when turning on the key. THat wire gets "hot" when you start the car (powers the radio when key is on) if that wire were hot full time, the radio would be full on, with or without key on

what ive actually done is cut the orange wire and the yellow wire and put caps on the ends of them so that they cannot find a way to be grounded. i even pulled the radio fuse and tried to start and still have problems.

is there a chip in your key? I've never seem the PATS system engage, dont think it would act like that. Maybe try with a second key?? all I can come up with...

In my 2000 Monte SS I had this same problem during my install.

Yours may be different, but I had 2 orange wires. The first time i wired it I thought I had the right one to the hooked up, but I didn't, and it wouldn't start. I switched the 2 orange wires around and everything has been good since (8 months now...) Its been a while since I did this, and I wish I could give you more details, but all I remember is that my problem was in one of the 2 orange wires.

Its doesn't make sense to me, and I was freakin out pretty good when it happened, but If you don't have a full wiring diagram for your car yet, I would try and source one and hunt down the problem from there.

Hope this helps...

thing is though i only hooked the headunit up for a test to check it out . i removed it and thats when it started with the problems.
Hmm, sounds like you may be taking a trip (tow) to the dealer...

Good luck with that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
