car audio shop ****...

I wouldnt expect a shop to know about mlv or ccf but that's just because a lot of shops know nothing about car audio besides half *** throwing in popular brand names.
Look into buying the proper tools to take off panels etc and you won't tear anything up and it will still be cheaper than a shop. You can do what you wish as far as deadening goes and not have to worry about anyone else f'in it up.
Probably what I'll have to do anyways. You got any links to quality sets of the tools?

In the car audio world almost nobody uses those materials in their doors and panels and I'm sure this shop isn't losing a lot of business from not offering that service. In fact outside of DIYMA forum you would just about never see either mentioned.

So that guys an idiot but you can't remove a door panel and do it yourself………

Just watched a friend of mine close his business up. He was doing good for a while, it's a shame to watch him close the shop up.
Its just too hard to compete with companies that buy huge bulks of product and sell at **** near dealer pricing, if not below. But that is one thing that has kept me in car audio. The ability to shop and find that better deal. Not too many new car audio enthusiast to keep the locals going. Old schoolers install themselves. And in all honesty, I'm a cheap fucker and like getting products below dealer cost.

Just search for "door panel removal tools" or "trim removal tools" online. I've used them in the past doing autobody work, but for my personal vehicle I just ripped panels off or used a screwdriver or whatever I had around. Lol. There's not much to them, so I don't think you need a name brand or anything. Harbor freight has a set that should work fine for cheap. Most of the clips are replaceable so even if you break them it's OK. Just be careful with the actual panels and you should be OK.

The only shop in my town charged a friend $3K+ for equipment that cost about $600 online. Prefab box and nothing "custom" about the install. And talking to the employees, they're ignorant when it comes to car audio in general.

If I had known before hand I could have saved him 2 grand plus or got him one hell of a system for that $3k. No way for a shop to compete when they're generally ignorant and can't be competitive on pricing.

You all do relize its a job for them not a hobby?
I'm sure they want to go home and read forums about car audio after they made just enough money to pay the rent.
As their livelihood depends on it, they should educate themselves to the best of their abilities. You SHOULD have more knowledge if its your job versus a person doing it as a hobby. So what's your point?

That's nothing to get all pissy about.

A lot of guys know, or should know, what they're carrying and such. There may be one or two people that know more than the next person.

i'm an installer and there are several things that separate me from all the "installers" around here. first my prices are usually higher than everyone else. second I know all the stuff that's out there. third i actually jumped through those hoops to get MECP certified. is the shop that you went to, are those installers MECP certified? if they are they should have known what you were talking about, if they weren't than you got the answer that was present with that guys knowledge level. if you're going to say a shop is reputable than put some names b/c so many guys go on a forum to anonymously put a shop on blast. all you do is hurt your credibility and create a false sense of stupidity of installers in the business. you come on here to blast a shop talking about how they don't know, yet you can't pull a door panel. people think the internet killed shops, the truth is is that guys like the OP are what kills shops. making accusations in a vague chicken **** way. quit being a ***** hiding behind your sn and name the shop and who you talked with.
