car audio schools

Mobile Dynamics comes to mind.

a little too far for me- i've already signed with acoustic edge institute. they offer a 12 week course with 80% hands on. people rave about snakepit but i hear nothing but bad stuff about them. hell the school i chose probably sux //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

yea, they are useless IMHO

I hired a guy that went to one in AZ once, he arrived with lots of arrogance and no love for the industry, he also made a lot of costly mistakes as much of what he was taught was generalized knowledge. I would much rather hire some one that has love for the field but needs to learn, then some one that learned book smarts and thinks they know it all.

I know it is a generalization and not everyone that goes there will turn out to be like that, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I would skip the school and find some one to intern or do understudies with and build your career from there.

acoustic edge sucks balls, i would not go. I had an installer that went there, he came out and could do some basic fiberglass interior and what not but had no idea how to use a multimeter

well, i guess i'm screwed because i got approved for the loan there- i had to raise all kinds of hell with my mom to get her to co-sign the loan. i wanted to go to mobile dynamics in toronto but she wasn't going for that. i'm not a total newb to car audio. i've installed my own systems in my last 4 cars. my main thing was learning how to re-build doors nad custom box design

persistance pays off, don't be annoying, but pledge your dedication to a few shops and wait for a position to open up. Not the easiest business to get into, but like I was trying to say before, book smarts aren't as important as love for the profession.

I started a thread asking the same and it went nowhere with everyone saying the same.. All kinds of people on here are in the business in some sort of way. I did not get one person saying go for it, if you need the exp go to best buy for awhile then move up to a smaller place, learn it and then try and go bigger..

I dont have a clue about this business personally, but in every business there are people who will take green guys and people who want a journeymen.

spend a few months reading this forum, and keep practicing and building custom installs and enclosures. Keep a portfolio of your work, and when it is impressive enough, take it around to shops and get hired! A local community college probably offers an electronics certificate that will teach you the basics of ohm's law, power safety, etc; they are only 20 credit hours or so.
