yeah my buddy that i installed with went to the metra install school. His class's project was a SPL competition civic. although he knew a lot about installing, he still didnt have any common sense. can't fix that.
I went to mobile dinamics 2 years ago. Best way to put it is they teach you the book work to know basic instals you willd o daily working at a car audio shop. Hands on they will get you comfortable instaling and unerstanding how a remotestart and alarm instal goes. They also teach you how to make a amp rack and ported box properly and make it look nice. They teach you how to fiberglass a kick pannel and cover it with vinal. So if you have a basic knowledge it will help reinforce your knowledge and help you desifer the crap that people have made up over the years with fact and the right way to do something. Then they elaberate on hardcore custom work for the audiophiles and gives you better knowledge on how sound works to make it easyer to build monster spl systems and teaches some home audio stuff.
When done my best explination is if your going to learn stuff to just instal pick up a MECP book take your test get a job. If you want to go to learn all types of cool stuff then def worth it if your going to be making audiophile and spl systems . I really enjoyed it myself but didn't help that much for basic instals. There is nothin better than learning most of the stuff on BCAE1.com reading the mecp book taking the test and most off hands on instaling. If you work in the indestry for 6 months to a year you will know alot more for basic instals. Thoughlike I say custom work I learned alot. If you don't go in with a good knowledge of car audio you will get stuck on learning the basics rather than breezing threw them and picking at the teachers brains and learning all the cool custom stuff. Dave and Mr. Fany pants (he was the workshop teacher we nicknamed him) are some of the coolest guys I have ever met. Frank Cook is VERY VERY knowledgeable too he was hard to talk to because he was so buisy but got to learn alot from all of them. I forgot the other guy who works there more or less helping on on remote start class time and he builds the custom cars for mobile D he is like 26 and it is just mind bogling on how much he knows information wise and hands on quality work. I went to Tornonto campus. I know this is kind of long my spelling sucks but should be informative I think with my sally may loan I took out a little more for living expences but with everything it was like 10K call the campus your intrested in and just talk to them you can learn alot more talking to some one just like when you make orders for online ordering its always better calling than e mailing.
