Cap wiring series/parallel?

I was wondering how you guys wire your caps between your amp and battery. Do you wire it inseries, so that the electricity goes through your cap first or have it wired parallel. I figured if I wired it in series, the amp would drain all the power within the cap and it wouldn't be able to recharge immediately. I was thinking that the correct way to wire it is parallel that way the amp receives constant power from either of two sources, cap or battery. Anyways, am I right?

When wiring a cap, series and parallel don't apply unless your wiring multiple caps, which even then it is different than your normal parallel wiring. Simply install the cap on the main power line as close to the amp as possible. The power wire from the battery will connect to the positive of the cap and then run another wire from the positive post to the amp. The negative post of the cap will then be wired to a grounding point on the vehicle.

would it be okay if I just add the cap to my current setup? as in just unscrew the power and negative screws on my amp and just have two wires, positive and negative running from the cap into the amp? That's the way I had it before, but I wasn't sure if that was okay, to just add the cap to the amp, (+) to (+) and (-) to (-).

Do not connect the negative of the cap to the amp negative. Both the negative of the amp and cap will need to be grounded to a grounded point. This can either be a bare piece of metal of the vehicle body chasis or a seat bolt or other clean solid metal connection. The positive (+) post of the cap shoule be in-line on the power wire from the battery to the amp positive. Install the cap as close to the amp as possible (within 12-24 inches or so).

yea that is in parallel with the AMP. Thats what he was saying

Parallel would be running both the negative and positive from the battery, through the cap, and to the amp which he would NOT want to do. The only thing parallel about it is that the cap is ran IN-LINE with the power cable. When talking parallel about caps and batteries it is usually referring to the installation of multiple batteries or multiple caps.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

your just not understanding . Parrallel is: all parts having the same positive and negitive. Te ALT and BATT are the source. in parrallel to each other are the AMP and CAP. Both having the SAME POS. and NEG. I know NEG. doesn't go to the AMP. It goes to ground. So does the AMP also. the cars body is the negitive which BOTH are connected to. So that makes them in parrallel. The only other way it could be wired which isn't to be done is--- wire the positive to the CAP and FROM neg of the cap wire it to the positive of the AMP. This would be series.
