Many times these days auto manufacturers place an alternator in the vehicle that would handle all the option, if it were to have them (power windows/locks, AC, etc). So alot of times if you buy a stripped down car it will have the big alt, but not all the fancy doo-dads meant to be run off it. My old Cavalier was a plain-jane no frills/no options car (even can factory-delete radio, rare these days) but had the same sized alt as the fanciest models came out with that had all the powered options.
