Well.. let's get some ideas... or not..

Should I get a box made for these guys? or go with newer stuff? maybe different stuff altogether.

I recently lost out on an RE *** 15 D2 so I have been looking for something else to fill my needs.

The *** 15 very well could have been a mistake too considering I'm not sure what I really want yet.

The reason why I have not put the Audiobahns to work is because I don't want to spend the money for a box to be made for them only to remind me that I am no longer interested in having to re-adjust my rearview mirror at every stop light. It might be fun for the first few times I'm out with my friends showing it off, but I suspect that would get old real fast and then I am going to wish I had spent my money on a set of good SQ subs in a sealed box.

So in my mad searches.. I have read some good things about the Phoenix Gold RSDC competition rated subs.

What do you guys think? a 10 ? maybe two 10's ?

or maybe a 12?

I don't know. help...

I ran 4 a long time ago, like 6 years ago, they were loud as **** on about 1500w, i blew one, ended up selling 3 to a buddy of mine about a year ago, he put 2 in then someone stole them, they still were loud as ****

Pix of the Audiobanhs or its lies.
Pics will be coming up before end of today.. in the meantime, can someone help and mock up a box for me using one of those fancy programs so I can know how loud these subs will play... etc.

How do we figure what the optimum enclosure is?

Sealed and ported configurations if possible..

I believe these are the specs for the aw1200x

Fs 33.6 Hz

Qts 0.48

Qes 0.53

Qms 5.2

Vas 50 Liters

Vas 1.7 Cu. Ft.

Re 3.2 ohms

Le 1.13 mH

Xmax +/- 12 mm

Pmax 700 Watts

EBP 63

Freq. Resp. 20Hz-500Hz

Efficiency 92.7 dB

Dimensions

Depth 5 5/8"

Hole 11 1/8"

Diameter 12 3/4"

Displacement 0.18 Cu.Ft.

All Boxes include Air displacement for Speaker and or Port(s)

Sealed An EBP of less then 45 is SUGGESTED for only a sealed box and 65 for a ported box

Minimum 0.5

Maximum 1.5

SPL 87.5 dB

Maybe these might finally see some power.

I will be looking to run them with a Sundown SAZ-1000d or the SAZ-1500d

and it will be in a Tahoe.

The assumptions we make in life...

Actually... it would be nice if these were infact stolen.. then I wouldn't have had to pay anything for them years ago when I actually bought a set of four 12's.

The reason I'm thinking about 10's now is that perhaps my tastes have changed over the last 12-15 years. No longer am I concerned with impressing a bunch of teens with how loud my trunk or roof rattled. Originally two were put into in a sealed box with some crappy rockford amp I had laying around. I thought they sounded alright then but what did I or anyone know about what sounded good at the time. We were all just kids.

I remember at some point, I ended up porting the box for more low end based on other people's recommendations. Of course I did all this without the help of WinISD or any other fancy software so who knows if those subs sounded good, or bad, or if they just didn't have the right install. Like I said, that was years ago. Eventually, the car got sold and so did the set up.

Must have got tired of the car audio thing, put much of the left over equipment in the back closet, as I am sure many of you have done only to years later, bring them back out. Being much older now, I can afford much better equipment than those days of highschool and yesteryear...

fast foward to today.. do I try to utilize these older but NEW pieces and invest some money into getting a proper box built, or do I save myself the time and money of doing things twice, and just get new stuff. Better stuff that is highly recommended by this and other forums. I don't have access to many places where things can be demo'd so I have to rely on others reviews and experiences. How do you think I came to the Phoenix Gold RSD's? Everyone was raving about how great they were for the money invested. This is true for the component set I have and also for the RSDC subs that I mentioned earlier. I've never seen nor heard any of these but have trusted the many posts and reviews I have read on line here and elsewhere.

I suppose that is where I went wrong.

Hmmm.. RSDC subs are cheapies? meaning CRAP ???
