So I'm getting closer to my final decision. What would you do? Price is about the same for either set-up and I would be looking to run a SAZ-1000D. I am probably looking at a sealed box configuration first. If I don't like how that turns out then I may go ported later with another box.
Also take note that I have the PG RSD 6.5 components running off of just 50 watts to each channel. Should I be concerned about being overpowered by the sub stage with these components? I did notice today while driving on the highway with windows down that I needed to push the volume on the deck almost to it's limit. It seems that if I turned up the gain anymore, then the speakers start to break apart, not necessarily get any louder.
Subs would be wired for a 1 ohm load thus giving the SE 10's about 500 watts each, or the SX 12 about 1000 watts alone.
One thing to consider is total cone area? I believe 2 10's may be more area than a single 12.
Longevity of the woofers. I believe the SX is built more tough to handle more abuse over time.
Flexibility of the woofers for various installations. I believe the SE's can do well in both ported and sealed enclosures whereas the SX is not recommended for sealed enclosures... but I have a feeling the SX will be a beast in a properly ported box. I believe both set-ups will take up about the same amount of space so box size might be a draw.
I am looking for more hard hitting and impactful bass, more so than long extended bass. Could a properly designed ported box with the SX 12 compete with the traditional quicker responding smaller driver in a sealed box in those respects.
What would you do? Please help.
