Ok well the sub is here. Now its time to build the box. I wanna get it right the first time. I have a few questions. Ok first i am sold on an L shaped port. My question is the sub is going to have to face up and i was going to fire on the side of the box Will this work right. This is going in the cargo space of a camaro. It has to be a T shape box to fit in there right. And if the sub is face the hatch is it going to muffle the sound it will have maybe 4in of space between the hatch and sub at full xmax. Will 3/4 in work for this box. It is a Fi btl 15 Fully loaded and i have a t2000bd as my amp. I know people on here said boxs can fall apart i wanna avoid flex and breaking box so will that size board work or what do i need. I am trying to get 4.5 cubic feet but if i have to may settle for 4 or 3.5 will that be ok or will i suffer db loss. I want it tuned to about 35 or 34 htz. Can you guys help me with some advice

I would use an aero port; face it ,and the sub, towards the glass.

3/4" MDf will work fine for that application. If you have to you can add bracing. You have enough clearance between the sub and hatch as well. As long as the port is at least the width of the port away from the wall of the trunk, the design should work.

Well the way it has to sit it wont really e hittin so much glass more of the plastic hatch part. Going wit aero ports how would i be able to know tuning I have no experience with ported boxes just have heard a friends with aeros and i could hear a lot of port noise thats why i wanted to stay away from them but if you know a trick to avoid that it would be grat to know thanks for quick response too

A lot of port noise, really? I thought that was supposed to be the exact opposite of the purpose on an aero port, hmm....

I've never heard one so I can't attest to your claim on the noise.

When tuning an aero port, all you do is cut it to length for the frequency you want. I would still at least fire the sub upwards at the glass. It will get louder for you.

Ok thanks man. Maybe it wont a aero port. I know it was a round ported and it had like a plastic tube that flared out but i never looked in the box is there something on the inside that is suppose to flare too ? Do you know about the length i would cut for 4.5 cubic feet tuned to 35 htz I will def fire up port as well

I have checked out google and cant find any good solid info. Cant some one please give me a like rule of thumb for tuning with aero ports and what size should i use 4" or 8" and how many ?? Please give me some help thanks

Generally you gain sound pressure from a smaller box. If you ever go to a SPL competition you will notice that most the of loud guys run tiny boxes. However, with this smaller box you also tend to lose efficiency and the flatness of the response. A flat response is what allows music to sound nice since the loudness is pretty much the same over a band of frequencies.

If going with aeroports, I generally recommend 3 or 4 4" ports for a 15. 1 or 2 6" aeroports will also work for a 15. The more port area you have, the longer the port needs to be. Each port should be the same length as the others. You can use the calculator on psp-inc.com to get a rule of thumb for tuning. I tend to have a lot of port area and port length on my boxes and I recommend to not skimp on port area to save money.

I am looking for spl but i do want to retain sq as best as possible. I was going for a 4 to 4.5 cubicfoot box. It is one fi btl 15. And i will be puttin about 2300 rms to it. Can i use pvc from like home depot or do i need some special stuff i want it to hit as best it can for a 15 But hit the lows i was told 35 Htz would get me about the best of both worlds

Changes to an enclosure will always be sacrificing one for the other. SPL boxes tend to be small in volume and have higher tuning, with a bigger box and lower tuning tends to be more SQ oriented. You can use whatever type of pvc that you want, but the flare that's on aero ports is what makes the difference. 35 hz is usually a good tuning for daily driving.

Use the calculator that I linked for you If you decide to go with aeroports or pvc ports you can always play with the port length and see what YOU like.
