WELL my dad+brother drove a 89 celebrity home...it was about a 15-20 mile drive...they had to jump it off 4 times...and thats with my dad going around 60 mph, running red lights, and passing people on the shoulder. This was with a burnt locked alternator. Not sure what kind of car you got...but a '89 celebrity uses very little digital components...SOOO yea...your not driving no 4 hours.

i would also go with no. but the least you can do is disconnect that extra battery in the back. at least your alt wont be stressing about charging that battery also. dont run or turn on any electricals if possible and just have ONE battery connected. thats the least you can do to get the most out of your messed up alt.

Did you even read the thread?

you'll completely drain your batteries, and probably ruin them.

a lot of things in the car use battery...

The ECU, fuel injectors, sensors, etc.

A lot of things are managed by electronics in a car.

You'd be better off renting a car, and selling your batteries to recoup the cost. Because, well, they're going to be worthless after you completely discharge them and your stuck 3 hours away from home, and an hour away from where you need to go.

You do know that jumping a battery does nothing more than start the car. If he is fully charging his batteries, he has more of a chance of making it. Although newer car's do have a lot more electronics. I'd check your running amp drain and calculate.

I'd fix my alternator before making any long trips, but thats just me OP.

Depends... I ran a car almost 7 full hours without an alternator. I had nothing drawing current though and it was a pretty large battery and it was an older car with manual everything. as long as you don't have any current draw on the battery you should be able to drive a little while. When the alt. went out on my '90 Talon TSI I only made it about 15-20 minutes but that was at night with my headlights on and a ton of electrical crap drawing current. I just needed to get it home (about 45 minute drive) so I just took two fully charged batteries with me and I made it back fine.
