Kenwood USB Drive Limitations

Recently purchased a Kenwood DMX-809s. Trying to get my music collection to work on a USB drive. I am running into a 250 folder limit. I currently have it all saved as Artist folder, then Album folder(s) under that. I quickly went beyond the 250 limit. I tried organizing it differently using A, B, C folders. I made it to B and now I have Bad Company in with Beatles, Blondie, Beach Boys, Bachman Turner Overdrive and others. Its a unorganized chaotic disaster. The unit only has 1 USB connection, and I'd like to be able to just plug it in, tuck it up underneath the console and forget about it.

Does anyone know of a work-around or maybe a different, better way to organize it?

I couldn’t even get mine to work with my single din. I have albums in its own folder placed within an artist folder and all those within one folder named music.

I am not sure why but your particular model uses FAT32 or exFAT file systems. This is most certainly the reason you are limited in the size of your drive or the folders you are able to have. I have the DMX907S and I have a 2TB SSD in the NTFS format with no issues.

I think if you have space on your phone (ability to use an external micro usb storage card) you could use your phone to stream HiRes music to the Kenwood. Or play it through Android Auto... through the connected USB cable.

As ThxOne said, It's probably the format of your hard drive. I formatted mines for FAT32, after doing some research, and I have an external USB hard drive that is full of music. Good luck.
