You're more likely to blow a sub from under powering it than over powering it. How fast are you cooking these subs? Does your amp have an input sensitivity switch? If it does and it's not set properly then you'll fry the coils in as fast as minutes.

so what you are trying to tell this guy is that unless he is playing full tilt all the time it will kill his subs... so when i turn the volume down on my stereo it is underpowering my subs.. wouldn't that be sending less power to them... you sir have failed at life and should not give advice unless you know wat the fak you are talking about.

When you have your bass boost/gain cranked up on the HU and the Amp, yes. You're trying to make up for the fact that you have half the RMS power going to the sub. So instead of getting good clean power, you're getting power that's all mudded up with bass. That'll blow your sub rather fast. Not to mention you're beating the **** out of your amp.

If he had the amp's gain/bass boost at a reasonable level, it most likely wouldn't have blown.

but underpowering a sub with even as little as one watt will not blow a sub. Stupidity is the only way to blow a sub. in that situation.

WOW! I see nothing has changed here in the last 5 years. I didn't say he was for sure 100% going to blow his sub. I said he is MORE likely going to blow it by under powering it.

never in the history if car audio, or audio in general has a sub or speaker ever been blown by underpowering it with clean power, it just isnt going to happen...

what actually blows the sub when its on an amp that is too small is someone setting it up incorrectly and sending a clipped signal to it, which causes heat to build up and at the end of the day its actually that heat that kills it...

if things are set correctly, there is actually an almost 0% chance of damaging a woofer on an amp that is too small for it.

the guy taking advice from this thread is new, and obviously doesnt know a lot about the car audio world (no offence to you op, we have all been there) so yes he needs things spelled out for him, saying half truths and things that can easily be misleading without knowing the reasons behind them is not help and is how poor audio basics get established...

so think the next time you post in the tech section.

Back to the OP question... your equipment is not complete junk but you can not expect it to sould like a FI 18" BTL. turn it down and set your gains properly You get what you pay for.
