BECAUSE when you have your gain set at MINIMUM that 8V dude, turning it up any more means ure preouts are a lower voltage. Gain is not a volume knob its used to match the preouts voltage to the amps input. If you preouts from the line driver are 7-8v gains should be ALL THE WAY DOWN, not 1/4 which will cause clippingWell okay the L7 was loaded in a kicker box which retails for 500$, 300$ ain't bad, how the heck am I clipping it when my gain is only at 1\4th on the amplifier?, the maxamize light on the Audio Control driver I'm not even lighting up which means it's only at 7-8 volts (I can crank it up more to get it to light) but I still don't understand how I'm clipping anything with the gains so low...
Clipping is when you over-volt right? How the heck am I possibly doing that?
I don't know how he fails to understand that 8V > 5V.BECAUSE when you have your gain set at MINIMUM that 8V dude, turning it up any more means ure preouts are a lower voltage. Gain is not a volume knob its used to match the preouts voltage to the amps input. If you preouts from the line driver are 7-8v gains should be ALL THE WAY DOWN, not 1/4 which will cause clipping
THere saying over paid because for 300 bucks we could get 3 times the woofer that thing it. My Obsidian 12 will out shine that ho and its 160, and prebuilt boxes usually dont allow any woofer to perform at there best. Not saying your sub *****, but we do need to get you a new box... Time to learn how to build son
trig is hard man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifI don't know how he fails to understand that 8V > 5V.
Yeah, pretty much...just got a quote from Don for my quad cab and it was $700 for 75 CLD tiles, 86ft^2 MLV, 48ft^2 Thinsulate Acoustic, some extruded butyl rope, CCF, and a few other odds and ends.Check out http://www.soundeadenershowdown.com for info on how to properly deaden next time and spend 1/6th as much.
So the fact that you're running 14KW wasn't over-heating the coils, just that it was "dirty"?I aint goint thru 8 pages. But its more than likely your amp. I had a stetsom 14k2e and that thing was dirty all the time no mater how you had everything set up it would still make sh1t stink.
So before you spend for ever fixing all this other bs throw another amp in and see if it still has that problem. Because im guessing its more than likely your amp
I ran a different 14k on the same set up and never had a problem. And that was with half of the battery power i had on the other 14kSo the fact that you're running 14KW wasn't over-heating the coils, just that it was "dirty"?
You clamped the same output power with both setups? Just curious about what this "dirty power" is that generates more heat than the normal sort of power...I ran a different 14k on the same set up and never had a problem. And that was with half of the battery power i had on the other 14k
So you can't distinguish between formaldehyde and burning electrical?Anyway, actually went to Car Audio (top in Atlanta, insanely expensive) and they tested it, my sub woofer is NOT burning up voice coils we actually cranked the gain up a good bit more and tuned it, he said it's the Formaldehyde used in MDF boxes, the smell was not electrical, so good to know I'm not actually frying anything we blarred it on bass-tests for a good 20 minutes and nothing, just that MDF smell, I'm not clipping and I am not over-heating voice coils, and that box smell IS normal from MDF boxes.
On a side note I am upgrading to a PDX1200 amp, I miss my old PDX, but yeah to everyone that was saying I was smoking my woofer..no.
Apparently I've never smelled it I guess...I've dealt with a lot of subwoofers...and the only smell I've smelled is the one I've always smelled >.>, and when I said that everyone was like "OMG UR LAST SUBS WERE BURNING UP TOO" for two years straight? Psh.So you can't distinguish between formaldehyde and burning electrical?
So your going from one overrated sub to another better but still overrated sub?Anyway, actually went to Car Audio (top in Atlanta, insanely expensive) and they tested it, my sub woofer is NOT burning up voice coils we actually cranked the gain up a good bit more and tuned it, he said it's the Formaldehyde used in MDF boxes, the smell was not electrical, so good to know I'm not actually frying anything we blarred it on bass-tests for a good 20 minutes and nothing, just that MDF smell, I'm not clipping and I am not over-heating voice coils, and that box smell IS normal from MDF boxes.
On a side note I am upgrading to a PDX1200 amp, I miss my old PDX, but yeah to everyone that was saying I was smoking my woofer..NO I am clearly not. I also think I'll be upgrading to a MTX 9500 12" which would be perfectly mated to the PDX 1200, either way for now my sub\amp is safe.
