Building A Box For JL Audio 12W6V2

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with ID Cavi. They were some of my favorite subs. I never did get to try the IDMAX. I always ran the old IDQ's. They were great to me and I sold them to a friend that ran them for years in his own car and now they are in his wife's car still bumpin. I feel ya on the being able to demo a product first but then you still would miss out on some of the great products that are not sold in shops. And like you I usually find a deal on some good used equipment because this hobby gets way too expensive if you buy everything new and pay retail. For diy car audio guys like myself, shops are a thing of the past. There's so many knowledgeable people on these forums that there is no need to even talk to anyone that's in a shop. There's even a lot of dealers and shop owners on this site. Sub builders, box builders, world class competitors and such. Now sure, I'll agree some of these guys are in tight with a certain company and that's all they push. But then you got some really good guys like the owner of Sundown. He does unbiased comparisons once in while of his product vs the competition. It's companies like that, where the owner is still a hobbyist himself that I feel comfortable recommending to other people.
Good post. And I agree with everything you said.

I had the Idmax for awhile after the IDQ's and felt it was a much better sub than the Idqv3 and I realy appreciated it's metal basket the sq was about the same as the Idq but it could go alot louder and lower but like the IDQ I felt the power ratings were a little off (ran 500 watts to the IDQ) the Idmax didn't like 1000 watts very much for fun I ran one 12w6v2 and one IDmax both in the reccomended sealed box with 1000 watts and I felt the 12w6 handled 1000 watts better than the max...was more linear and controlled, they both had a different sound that I can see some would prefer over the other, I prefered the w6 then sold the Idmax and bought a JBL WGTI 15...this sub is just awesome I realy wish it get's more recognition.

Like we both agree on it's all about having an open mind to all products wether mainstream or non mainstream...both sides have some quality product and both sides have the ability to rip you off especialy with the mainstream stuff because of some of the local shops that can take advantage of you. My system is mixed of both having JL amps and subs with CDT Components.

I think it would be a good idea for th OP to take advantage of your offer since he lives close to you and check out your box's/subs and maybe try his current sub in another box some people swear by the 12w6v2 in a ported box tuned to 30-32hz.

Show me proof and I will admit to being a moron I already have presented mine not sure how much more proof would be needed. I will be awaiting this evidence and we will see who the moron is...
lol i really didn't mean for anyone to get into a heated debate but JL subs are most likely assembled here in USA, but parts are made in china. I still have my W6 box and it does have a sticker on it saying "MADE IN USA" I could always take a picture if someone needs the prove?

Yes, when I get some more money I will be purchasing an enclosure from him. He makes really sick boxes and the prices are excellent. I really wont be buying the w7 anymore, i guess im just going to get another 12w6v2 sometime. Would be a cheaper way to go. Wish i could find 2 new ones for $200 like you did. Thats an awesome deal, but i paid $330 for mine from amazon. I'll try to look around craigslist or something.

It's cool, We came to a common ground with the emphasis of keeping an open mind to all car audio products no matter where you get them from and to do plenty of research and auditioning before you take the plunge on a purchase.

Nothing personal, but nearly all underground companies are "built in the USA". But where do the parts actually come from:naughty: . Having a 13" driver requires a lot of custom work, but nothing groundbreaking. Same with the TW5.
The size has nothing to do with what is special about the W7 series. The methods that they use to lengthen the gap and flatten the BL curve and reduce distortion actually ARE groundbreaking and patented. The cooling methods and the design that they use to stiffen the cone assembly are also unique and patented. Everyone gets all wrapped up about the superficial things like the 3 ohm coils and the 13 inch version and forget about the underlying technology.

As far as where their parts are sourced, only they know. You can speculate all you want but it is only speculation. I don't get too concerned about where the stuff is built as long as the design is solid, the parts are good and the QC is good.

I'm well aware that most of the 'net brands are USA assembled from overseas parts. Unlike most I actually understand why, don't blame the company and really couldn't care less...

You can't even make the argument that they are more reliable then the competition. I worked for a JL dealer. I saw more blown JL subs then you can imagine
Blown subs don't prove anything except that the user had no clue what he was doing. No one that I know that knows what they are talking about has said you could abuse the crap out of JL subs and they are indestructible. That BS comes from the punk kids that can't even form coherent sentences and don't know a **** thing about audio.

Moron, JL aint american made.
I'll assume that you're not talking to me with that comment...
