not too much going on right now, i've got the interior out, just finished cleaning everything with acetone, and everything is taped off now.

im actually heading to home depot to get a few 2" rollers for the spectrum spray. im going to see how it works painting it on before i have to go out and buy an undercoating spray gun...but im thinking that it should be fine, plus im going to cover the first layer(s) of spectrum with a few layers of fatmat, it should be good to go...

these were taken before the vacuuming and acetone wash...nothing special yet...

and as you can see the package tray is gone and i cut a port hole there, i am fabricating a new package tray out of 3/4 blondewood and im also making up a fiberglass port...will also be making new speaker enclosures for the rear which will point my new CDT's towards the front...

once the sound deadening is complete, i am hoping to ride out to Tampa to meet up with Robin so we can construct a enclosure for my 2 mx's and some housing for the amps...

so when all is done i should have 2 12" re mx's off a memphis 4kw @ 2ohms, my boston z6's (front) and the CDT CFI's (rear) off my JBL px300.4.... not the most spectacular setup, but im anticipating it's completion...

what? i haven't even started the deadening yet...thats OEM deadener...

unless your saying more than 2 gallons of spectrum and 100sqft of fatmat (to work with at least)

man painting it on is a big job...i kind of thought this stuff would smear on thicker so that over stroking wouldnt be a problem, but it doesn't so you pretty much just sling it on and lightly smooth it out...no worries though it's going well, just ran out of day light though...

i have some pics of me half way through it, i might throw some more batteries in and get some more recent pics...

stopping point for the night...

this took about 2.5 hours...it's not hard to work with once you get the hang of it...im sure that spraying would take you maybe 1.5 hours to complete an entire trunk section...but i kind of like the painting on approach, i have more control of what gets covered...hardest part is maintaining consistency, but thats pretty simple if you pay attention...

i hate to leave brush strokes, but i just didn't have any more energy for the night...

more to come tomorrow...

just finished up a 2nd coat on many areas, still have some touch up and more detailed areas to get to...it's going alright, just about finished up the 1st of 2 gallons today...will have most likely have to use 1/4 of the 2nd gallon to finish everything...once this is complete, i will let it set a few days and i will start laying down the fatmat...

FYI for anyone who is paying attention, after i used acetone to clean down the bare metal, i followed it up with a nice denatured alcohol scrubbing, you can use either or and i believe that denatured alcohol would be a better choice if you didn't know which to choose out of the 2. i didn't think i had any when i started, then i found it so i used to as well..

i don't think major cleaning is that big of a deal with the spectrum spray, since it adheres to everything pretty thick and without problem, but if your going to put down dynamat or fatmat or raamat etc. down on the bare metal, you would want to thoroughly clean the surface with a similar product...

gonna finish the spectrum up today (hopefully) will let it cure for several days and will probably lay down the fatmat on Monday-ish...

Shouldve used the gun. Its 50 x faster and it makes a nice textured finish.

A simple sandblasting gun works great.

I think it took me maybe 20 min to spray a honda trunk and about an hours worth of masking off everything.

you know i fought with myself on the whole painting vs spraying thing, and actually i gotta say i'm happy with my results so far, sure its taken me 3 days, but im also only able to devote so much time a day...usually 2-3 hours at night...i think its coming along swimingly...and once it's all cured im going to cover it anyway, so aesthetics don't really concern me...even though i like things to be done right..

and i have an undercoating gun that would have worked great, just found it this morning.. oh well

also i bought a few cans of 3M undercoating today, for the areas i wasn't able to get with a brush or for areas where i feel i can really pour it on, like around the dog leg and down in the wheel wells, im going to spray this stuff in there, should seal it up proper, plus it's thicker than the spectrum...hopefully this ends my rattle trap days....
