Honda + Subs = Rattles :(
A buddy of mine really liked listening to music in my car with the bass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif so he finally decided to install some subs in his ride.

We wanted to keep it low budget so before anyone says I'm a kicker fanboy for promoting kicker, I'm not //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif My local hookup for car audio has alot of kicker stuff for really cheap and it doesn't sound half bad. Anyways, we decided to go with some kicker comps because of the price and relatively low wattage needed to push them.

Weapons of choice:

-Stock head unit (thanks *******, I had to do a bunch of wire splicing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif)

-Sub stage: (2) 15" Kicker Comps

-Amplifier: Kenwood 1000W Class D Monoblock (500 RMS 250 per sub as rated by kicker)

-4 AWG wiring kit

He bought everything and I built the box and installed it all.

Box Specs:

6.2 cu ft @ 33Hz with subs in box

Box is about 34" wide if I remember correctly, 20" deep and like 22" tall (above window line but not by much, really strapped for space for those 2 15's)

Anyways, onto the pics

I apologize ahead of time, I used my phone to take the pictures, although the quality of the pics isn't too horribly bad (iPhone) although some pictures are turned sideways //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

After a trip to Home Depot for a few things...

I know you see that special something in the background;)

Port painted in gray primer (who cares, it's a raw wood box anyways cuz my friend is a cheapo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Front and top of box installed and holes cut

Don't worry these pics don't show it, but there is a vertical brace inbetween the subs going from the bottom of the box to the baffle.

Next post... gay 10 pic limit.

Continued...

Some nice 10AWG wires I made for the speakers with some terminal ends and heatshrink tubing.

Wired the subs in parallel for final load for 2 Ohms and put in a terminal cup and wired it to the amp... do not ask me why my friend attached the amp to a piece of wood and then screwed it to the box. I gave him one job to do... mount the amp while I did the splicing into the factory radio and I come back and this is what I find. Whatever, not my slaps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

In the car and all powered up. Seat folds back fine, just had it folded forward while I was adjusting the gains and x-over

King kong in the trunk!

Ran into a few speedbumps along the way, such as the signal to the amp. I originally spliced a Hi-Low signal converter (LOC) after the amplifier in the trunk but apparently it had its own set of filters and the subs would really die down on the lows. After some help from the people in Wiring section, found out a solid low-level signal before the amp and I tapped into that and spliced/soldered in a set of RCA jacks. Hooked the amp up to that and it SLAMS the lows now. The little shade thing that you pull over the sunroof came off the track and it's just bouncing around now.

Vids coming soon!

I would take some pics right now, but I was changing radiator fluid and accidentally rolled over the bucket that it was draining into... Broke one of the power steering lines and it spewed ***** fluid all over the garage floor (power steering pump uses auto ***** fluid in this car btw). So I still need to clean that ish up. Big red puddle under the car... looks like it bled out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

Well, the big red blood stain under the stang is cleaned up so I'll upload a few more pics of that. I also took a quick video of my buddies car that I installed with a few bass tests. It gets really ****in loud for how cheap of a budget system it was. I'm overall impressed. Although I'm a bit jealous now because he's now louder //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Time to go buy one of those 12" Audiopulses on blowout sale at parts express //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
