Breaking in Type R's?

I noticed.. that the surround is VERY stiff at first, and gets much softer as they are played more..
NOT sure if this means anything at all, just an observation..

barely stiff compared to other subs before and after break in

you guys think a pair of 12s R can handle a hifonics 2008D probably give them 750 each. and is a 3.5 cubes box tuned to 32 good? thats all i can fit after sub and port displacement?

Just giving that 800rms to ONE of them will get louder than two on that power. Type R's are nice, they just like a lot of powa.

Ummm.... no, no it won't. The two will be louder, by at least 3 dB -- probably more when you figure in how much power compression a single R getting 800W will be suffering from.

Lol... Two on 750w each in a 3.5cf box won't get as loud as one in a 2.5cf box with 1000w... Well maybe it will get as loud, but it will sound super shitty.

i'm going to try it and see what happens. if they don't sound good ill build another box.

I plugged them in and played them right away. No problems getting on them, they lasted me 3 years before 1 of them took a shit and decided to go another route. I always like my type R's and had 1000rms to them and it wanged!

Umm, wtf are you talking about?? How am I talking about R's defying the law of physics??? All I said was that 3.5 cf will suffocate them and cause them to sound like shit.

They really liven up once you give them about 1000w. As in, it's much quieter only giving it 100 or 200w less

OK, do the math with me now...
(new power / old power)log*10 = change in dB (before accounting for compression)

(1000 / 800)log*10 = .96 dB

(1000 / 900)log*10 = .46 dB

So even with a 200W increase, you have less than 1 dB gain at full volume. Any of those differences are going to be BARELY AUDIBLE -- especially after compression rears its ugly head.

Any subwoofer is going to sound better with LESS power, not more power. If you like the way it sounds with MORE power, then you like the sound of distortion.
