box size for subs

i didnt really get that, so your saying its not a problem, but im lookin at punch stage 2s, 6.1 depth, and reccommended .85 sealed, but my box is about 1.3 per chamber.
It's not going to hurt the speakers though... you just gotta realize that reccomended specs are only reccomendations. Having a larger sealed box will lend you a flatter response with better low frequency extension, it may not get as loud due to the peak being smoothed out, but IMO it will sound better.

Also changing box size will change the mechanical power handling of you subs, a bigger box will decrease the mech. power handling compared to a smaller box, but as long as you pay attention to your subs you'll know when they're under stress and you need to turn it down...

ported boxs need less wattage to reach the thermal rating on your sub as compared to sealed enclosures. so yes, basically, a ported box-not necessarily bigger-can help with lower wattages.

Call me crazy... but thermal rating shouldn't really change with different alignments... Mechanical power handeling will change without a doubt, but thermal (I would think) would stay the same.

you're crazy.....hey you asked for it.
i'm pretty sure the the power handling and the thermal rating are directly related to each other so in essence both could change with the enclosure.
