Box Question

then what i should i do? my box really does have to have many sides in order for me to get 6 cubes. helP!
okay, that is not a problem. the box can have as many sides as needed, for daily dirvers this is NOT a problem.

What we are trying to impress upon you is that once you build the enclosure, meausre the dern thing out to get the internal volume. Once you have that, you can calculate you port tuning.

What i am worried about is, as i've read this thread it looks like you're going to run your subs in 6 cubes sealed and then try to port the box later on. *Generally* speaking, 6 cubes is a lot of room for a sealed box.

Porting it after its built is not a huge problem, but you may end up with alot less net volume then 6 cubes if you do not account for the port volume & tuning before you build.

Kay?

oh my god.

he is saying he is going to make half of the box to fit the contour of his trunk, then he is gonna do some calculations, create the port, and then put the front on...

i was gonna do the same kinda thing;

i was gonna make my port FIRST for a 1.2cuft box@37hz, and then do some fiberglassing and get ~2.5cubes net AFTER port, and fill the un-needed .3 cubes with wood.

noone could grasp my concept, nor could they help me make a port. so im thinking im gonna have jmac make the port for me.

Yes Yes! Exactly. i want to make half of the box first...back and 2 sides then i can figure out the rest... possible? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Also... generally speaking.. when someone says to put a sub in 6 cubes.. do they mean 6 cubes of internal volume?

how can i explain this to you ?? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok , can u draw a sketch with PAINT , and post it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

then i will draw you one also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif---> be fast i didnt sleep for 2days yet , (i wake up 2 days , and sleep 12 hours)

Heres a pic of my trunk

here is what we all mean, it will be harder for you to predict

variation on port length or even arae of sides , will change your tunning freuency //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

say what , if u didnt get this one yet , PM and give me your dimentions (Lenght , width , hight) and volume example 1.5 cuft or 2 cuft ,and tunning frequency, and MDF thickness.

and give me your sub name, and if u can all specification written on manual

subdisplacment and so ...

well well , u r complicating it to your self. it can be made rectangular (NORMAL)hey do u need the rest of the trunk ??

i want to keep atleast half of it. a big box in the trunk looks soo ugly. im also planning on building a "faceplate" to give the box a flush look.

with those dimensions and a rectangular box, could i still come up with 6 cubes?

look i came out with

WIDTH = 30"

HIGHT= 30"

DEPTH = 20" (it can be decreased)

if this is ok with u , hit me back ,

and yes your box design can be build , but it will be very hard (VERY HARD) because u have like more than 6 small sides.

um. why not just use fiberglass. check my threadhere

all i gotta do is figure the freaking dimensions of a port and im set to go. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smash.gif.499e08a4a35ffaf54f4c8194fb8fe8ed.gif

hey plazman , if u still interested in the one i showed u up , u r very welcome to PM me, cause am designing one for my self also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif (4 the complexed one , i really dont have the time for that)

good luck

holy crap has this gotten over complicated...

first of all, sorry for the misunderstanding, by your first post i thought you were doing this in a truck. it doesnt change much other then the difficulty of the fiberglass.

second, IMO you should def fiberglass for what you're looking to do.

third, you're running one xxx 15?

as a rough estimate, how wide is the shortest width of your trunk? (i.e. bottom of wheel well to bot whl well). Also, shortest height, and max depth you're willing to sacrifice.... given these things we can give you a low estimate of how much net volume you could get.

fourth, if a low ball estimate is 6 cubes, you should get a good bit more then that once glassed into all those little spaces (giving you displacement headroom for port & driver.

Glass or all mdf: if you have to make it first to measure INTernal volume the MAKE THE BOX QUITE A BIT BIGGER THEN 6.0 CUBES. Then later on you can add dead fill to the box to bring the volume down to 6.0 net (meaning your total internal volume is 6.0 + driver displacement + port displacement).

YES it will work. Its not really that hard. With one xxx in that area (of your trunk) you should have enough room for a 6cube ported box. You just have to get the measurements right to make sure your enclosure is tuned where you want it. Its NO MORE complicated then that.

Worst case, build or glass the box too big, calc & recalc your port (cant get around that even with a regular cubic box), then fill the box itself to where your port calcs will work.

YES IT WILL WORK. just a lil more work involved. Should not be a big deal. We can help, its just that you have the hard part of measuring out that enclosure.

I dont know any other ways to say it, i'm sorry if its not clear enough.
