Hello I need some help I am a drummer and I play guitar, and I am a bass head. For years I have tried to be the loudest hardest hitting guy around, but I guess with age comes changes. I am trying to piece together a new system, but this time my first goal is designing it for clarity and sq. I listen to mostly new and old heavy metal even hair bands and classic rock, sometimes hip hop and country and techno MY QUESTION IS THIS.>.Whats the best SOUNDING box you ever heard, sealed, ported ,bandpass, isometric, etc ? In a hatchback car ,What box design will make the music I listen to sound as beautiful and accurate as possible? . Whats the best SOUNDING box you ever heard sealed ported bandpass isometric etc? What are your ideas and suggestions and why?

depends on tuning, power and music....with your wide spectrum of music listening you are better off with a sealed box....sub freq in rap is usually around 37-40....with techno near 50...and rock around the same area...

Assuming you will want to keep some of your space back there, a sealed enclosure will roll off very high unless you have a ton of cone area(big woofers or more small ones). I recommend a low tuned ported enclosure build to suit whatever driver you will be using. My current setup is tuned around 24hz and has ~flat response down into the upper 20's.

x's 2 and there are a ton of good sql woofers out there that drop balls in ported boxes. lolz

i have been looking at cerwin vega stroker pro 12s and the us amps subs and i am willing to give up back seat also any advice on AGGRESSIVE sounding mids and highs ,keep the box ideas coming thanks

my favorite box design of all time is 4 10's in a single reflex bandpass, it gives you best of both worlds, tight sound from a sealed box with the low tuning of a ported box, the bandpasses ability to hold more power allows you to really turn it up and get some good poundage. in a hatch fire the ports backwards and you will be amazed of sound quality... hope this helps.

yeah my bad, what i meant by drop balls is, if I'm out in the parking lot hanging out and somebody pulls in listening to rap or hip hop. i can still put a bass CD or hip hop song on and make turn theres off ,meaning even though I'm listening to metal if i want too i can still destroy you gotta love parking lot battles. keep the box designs coming

not true....and obviously dman4486 didnt read that the OP listens to a wide array of music...by drop balls he didnt mean get great response at 20 hz.
I know you like me and all, but you can get off my nuts now.....I really don't need to be mentioned in every post you make feggot.

O.P. if you are looking for it to be loud, then you can do the same with a vented enclosure but instead of tuning in the 20's bring it up to 30 or just above. This will allow you to pick up the sub-bass in rap and still have great sound in the rest of the driver's range. If you decide to go with a driver that is designed for a sealed enclosure, then use a sealed enclosure, but the vented option has more potential for a daily setup.

if you are going to go with a ported enclosure....35 is about where you need to be most songs stay around this some drop down to 27 hz (jeezy) and it will still get down that low if crossover settings are correct....if sealed obviously no tuning needed....
