Box Finishing questions

I just got a couple quick Questions about finishing my box.

First I'm thinking of covering it in some bed-liner, not sure I like the black color can you paint over bedliner with a rattlecan?

And second instead of drilling holes and running the wires directly out of them, I have heard of drilling a hole and screwing in a screw you can mount the wires to, is this true?

Thanks

The screw method is awesome and works extremely well. I needed my box to be easily removeable so I thought I needed a cup, but the screws-through-box method is cheaper, easier, and more readily-available. I will be using it on all of my future boxes. Buy machine screws from Home Depot, preferably brass, get the matching nuts/washers, (all in the little 98 cent bags), then drive the screws from inside the box and use double nuts on the outside to secure the bolt and ring terminal from the speaker wire.

Sorry don't know anything about bedliner //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah some people put a bolt through and hookup the wires using ring terminals or somethin. i just drill through the box. it's way easier to run the wire that way and if you drill it the right size barely any air escapes from it

Yes you can paint over spray on bed liner, and yes you can drill a hole in the box and run a machine screw through it to connect your wires. Make sure you get something that will flow electric with little resistance, and use washers of the same material

I've used threaded rods with nuts and washers for all my boxes. I heard you can paint over bedliner, but never tried it. I normally paint all my enclosures with a couple coats of primer, then use some of the stone look paint from Home Depot and throw a couple coats of clear over it. Always looks awesome.

Awesome thanks for the replies guys! I'm looking for a clean simple install, don't like the look of running wires out of the port. I'm Debating covering the box in bedliner or some craaazaay purple carpet. So far only seen the rustoleom roll on, which I've read chips easily and doesn't have the same textured look I want from a bed liner. Gonna have to look into the stone painting mentioned

Yea its like purple fleece, but with a carpet like backing I'm hesitant to use it as I've never carpeted a box before, and feel like the nature of the material seams would show combined with my inexperience it would not turn out how I want it to. Might grab some to do a little test piece of mdf though see how it goes, it would look pimpin', but Bedliner would be more durable and easier to put on

I always thought hammered paints looked cool, but not sure how they work on wood.

One thing to plan for is the edges of the MDF, it drinks the the primer and paint in. Usually end up putting several coats of primer on the edges because of this, do a couple coats and let it dry a couple hours and put a couple more on it and hopefully it's enough so it's not noticeable when you put the final paint and clear on it. When it's done it looks pretty sweet with the speckled granite looking paint, just decide if you wanna use a dark gray base primer or a lighter one, the primer is gonna be your base color and the speckled paint goes over that.

This was an old competition box I was suing with my Fi's.

I'd never carpeted a box before but it turned out awesome with the assistance of this video:

Yea I saw that video looks really helpful the length of the roll I saw I don't think its long enough to cover the box on both sides without having like a square in the middle uncovered, in which case more seams. Purple pimpin box is very tempting tho haha
