Box Design questions

K this is a sorry on double post but my previous post had not been accepted yet. I am going to get that Kicker L5 15" for $250, FI is having a black friday sale

(1) 18" Sub would be GREAT!

... But as for as the Kicker L5 15" sub goes...

I'd do ( either ): ( In your car )

... Sub Up, Port Up

Or ... Sub Back , Port Up

( Maybe all back... But 1 of those will be great )

.. Oh yeah: TUNED @ 32HZ

Yes, I am planning to have it behind the back seat, if I shouldn't get that then what. I don't like craiglist because I am not risking getting ****. And FYI the L5 is going to be brand new. If I can find elsewere or a non bullshit new L7 pair for $250, ill take it.

I had some neighbors with 2 12" L5's. **** was loud as hell. Kinda expensive and didn't sound the best. Was very loud though and in a prefab L5 ported box- trunk car.

Well what about the L7, I am looking for a square sub because they are the loudest out of all subs.
Where did you get this info? Do you see square subs winning spl world titles? No. Sure they have more cone area, but their design limits the amount of excursion before they start to fail.

Prefab box = high tuning = peaky response = loud within a certain frequency range. I doubt it had any balls below 40hz.

I am looking at the Fi, I do like them but I have a few questions, Do they really only hit 32Hz? I would prefer a sub that can hit lower.
What makes you think they can "only hit 32hz"? The box will greatly determine the repsonse curve of the sub. You can make anything peaky, and you can make nearly anything dig low into the mid 20's with ease. Pretty much any Fi sub will have better low-end potential than a L5 or L7. The Kickers can get loud in a higher tuned box, just like any other sub. It's the sound quality and lack of low-end that I've seen from L5's and L7's that really turn me away.

I have seen them in the winner circle a lot over the years.. :) not the point though.

this isnt a this or that which sub to buy thread.

here is what i recommend

Sub up port up, four cubes @ 35 hz

in my expierence the l5 can be tuned in the mid 30's and still play into the high 20's without much of an issue as long as the signal is clean.
