BOX BUILD! worklog [pics]

I think its more of a strength thing than an aesthetics thing though. Screwing DOWN the baffle instead of screwing INTO it.
I don't know, call me crazy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
It's easier to strip screws out from being screwed down...than to snap good screws in half from being screwd into. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Also, then you have that GAY lip around the port...that you need to cutout with a jig-saw or something...that= gay. I like the front to just slid in...and no need for a dumb lip around the port //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Oh well...to each his own.

Never stripped a screw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Not that really affected anything anyways.

And.....routers own. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I guess i just have good luck and the proper tools?

Chit I have good luck with improper tools. I can cut a mean darn near perfect circle with a jig:)

In fact, I could cut the whole box with a jig. But then there is that darn angled cut you have to worry about. And sanding it down sucks...

I have multiple routers....still doesn't take away from the fact that the lip is gay //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Meh, i've come to accept it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I just think it looks cleaner from the front without the stupid gaps (uncovered i mean). Not to mention if you paint it, its much easier to fill in a few screw holes than have to bondo and sand EVERY line on the front of the box to make it smooth for paint.

But we all have our quirks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Exact (square) cuts= no worries //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Bah, even then you still gotta do some bondo/sanding work to make it perfectly smooth. Not to mention the ends of MDF which look like crap if they aren't prepped good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

^^^I'll agree with you on that one, but we are talking single baffle here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But in both pictures above, the top layer is screwed down to the rest of the pieces, not the rest of the pieces screwed INTO the baffle.

Why are we talking about this again?

looking good.

just one question if your folding off the upper corner of the port shouldnt the inside corner be folded to run with it so they are / / instead of / |

Moe is my thinking right on this? cause it seems like have the port 45ed off on the top but not the bottom causes it to shallow instead of keeping the same distance.

BUMP

Didn't get any work done on the box today, too tired. Ran 8.3 miles at cross country practice this morning(I'm in HS), then another 3 or 4 through some Sandhills after school. (picture1 and picture2 of the running there. That's me in the white shorts, no shirt in the front in picture2. Can't see me in picture1.)

My new speakers came in today to replace my sub-par stock system in my single cab, some 6.5" and some 4x6" from Soundstream. Heard these in a friends car, and they were very impressive. Crisp and detailed. And, only $90 shipped for all four.

I also dug out an older Legacy Audio LA630 Series IV 4 channel amp that I'd been saving to power these speakers. I have a feeling (since it's a legacy product), thats its overrated, so It should provide near perfect wattage to each speaker. It's fairly scratched up as its used, but I got it free, so it's all fine.

Also, found some POS(probably) tweeters I gotfrom a friend he got for free from an eBay auction. I doubt they are high quality what-so-ever, but I figure why not hook em up to the new HU(clarion DXZ855MP) when I get it just for some fun. They're rated as 200w max per tweeter... lol.

Without further ado, the pictures:

6.5" XStream 3-Way Speakers without the grilles. The tweet in the middle looks off just because of the angle of the picture.

4"x6" XStream 2-Way Speakers without the grilles. The tweet in the middle looks off just because of the angle of the picture.

Both speakers with the grilles on em.

The POS tweeters. I have another pair around somewhere. They also have some BLING BLING grilles for em.

The LA630 4-Channel Amp, front view. Little scratched up, but it works fine.

The Speaker, Power, Remote-Turn-On, and Ground wire inputs.

The RCA inputs.

I'll be back later on tomorrow with some more pictures, probably.

Hasta luego.
