i personally think it looks pretty ghetto when you stack another piece on top of it for a double baffle though.

I think its more of a strength thing than an aesthetics thing though. Screwing DOWN the baffle instead of screwing INTO it.

are those support dowels really neccessary?
well with 4cuft and that much power you want to insure no flexing of the mdf. them top and bottom boards look to be about 38" x 24" thats alot of flat area to not brace when pushing subs that can hit 150+ dB
