Bought 2 RE audio 18 SX's....... and....

why tune so low with the next box and get spl subs?
Because this vehicle isnt made for everybody else its made for me and i love the "feel" of that low-end bass, ill probably go for the low 30's high 20's for sure, but im sure with that much RMS it will be loud regardless.

not that i read all of that but yes future shop blows, and you got me back GOOD. Glad you can take a little criticism. o and i am totally jealous of your gf and her willingness to help you (plus she dosnt look half bad either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ). I haven't had a girlfriend like that ever. i wasnt trying to make fun of your gf helping you just the method you used to set the gain.
btw i like you choice of subs. i used to run 12" sx's and now run a 15" btl, what a coincidence.

o and what you said about clipping and the small fuse is incorrect. the fuse simply is a safety mechanism so that if your power wire shorts you wont start a fire in your car.

However, your amp has no fuses on the chassis so the fuse should be matched with the amp to protect the amp as well but using a smaller fuse wont hurt anything except the fuse (it may blow). using too large of a fuse can cause a curcuit within the amp to blow if you are trying to extract more power than it was made to produce (cant happen if the fuse is of proper size or smaller)
Wow we have a man on thease forums //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thanks man for that helpfull post.

i know i can get annoying, i am a newbie i dont expect you to put up with me, thats fine just dont de-rail my thread for your own egotistical purposes to try and make yourself seem smart and everybody else seem small.

Theres always people like this on every forum and unfortunatlly thats how things will always be.

I thank you very much for that informative post, like i said it was just a theory that is all i can base my questions off, because i dont know much about car audio and i have been admiting that from the start.

So thank you for being kind, and understanding and taking a better approach to this. I appreciate your help, and will enjoy it if you stay tunned to this thread and continue to watch and help out where ya can //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

You have more patience than I do, mendon mafia.

No, you are just an egotistical douche bag that needs to grow up and get over some issues. BOY

grow a pen!s and get over it, im a newbie with some cash and my GF helps so i can get good expensive gear quick that doesnt give you any justified reason to be an assh*le the only reason you are is for some unspoken reason that is going to remain that way most likely.

I dont care if you think i dont have a right to own this gear, I do and i have every right to learn how to use it right, so go screw yourself and get a life and quit picking on people who want to learn because if there wasnt people wanting to learn and everybody got opressed by d!cks like you nobody would sucseed or learn in areas that they wanted to via internet communitys that are suposed to grant knowledge, not douche bags like you who just act confrontational over any little word you can pick up and stir up crap over. Grow up, get out of this thread and move along.

thanks

I am looking at either one of thease, or getting a 8v head-unit. I dont nessisarly like my pioneer one anyways, and depending on the price of a good 8v head-unit i wouldnt mind upgrading.

If they are all out of reach though i will deffinatly order one of thease. Would one of thease put out adiquite power to 2 amplifiers or would i need then 2 line drivers?

thanks man !

I do apolojize to those who are trying to help for thease posts in here that have been made to derail this thread and get it off topic, hopefully an administrator or mod can clean it up, but lets hope that things stay on track now and that the people who dont want any part of this or any part of helping me can take the high-road and just ignore this thread if it is such a big deal to them they cant well then maybe they have some serious issues and shouldnt be on the internet in the first place, So lets keep it on track here guys i want this post moved to the build journal section please admins ! it is turning into my full start to finish build journal and i would like to keep it going in that fashoin

thanks to everybody who has made this an informative thread for people to read, and to those who have just added unneeded clutter it is very immature and i think if you are so disgusted or frusterated or whatever it is that causes you to act arogent and like know-it alls i hope you decide to stop so the rest of us can continue, and i can continue to learn from the nice people who make the choice to offer up their help.

thank you,

-andrew

another douchebag reporting in ?

get out of here.

mod please clean this crap up, this is blatent trolling. ban thease r-tards. why dont you all just screw off so i can learn and the people who want to help me can do so without having to sift through this crap do you seriously get pleasure from this ?

Anyways RE audio dust caps dont melt, my impropper setting of the gain caused that because i didnt know how until i LEARNED FROM THEASE FORUMS. so go stick your thumb up your arse get a life and please let this thread continue to provide knowledge, not troll posts just because you guys are getting kicks out of ruining my efforts to learn and imrpove my system and understanding of how it all works.

BTW haunz what do you have in your car ? like i said jelousy does strange things. Get out of this thread and let it continue please, its not hard. If you where a real grown man you could simply not click on the thread and enter it every day to leave some smug as$ remark to try and impress everybody. You are both loosers, and im glad there are some actual people who want to help me. Because i have to admit, and have since the start that i do infact need it Since i am newbie at car audio.

Just because im starting with a bigger setup than most of you have currently, dont hate. Just help and be glad that somebody else gets to enjoy it, envy and jelousy are the 2 worst human emotions, what else could explain your constant desire to come back into this thread and continually stur up crap ? the fact you are trying to help ? i dont think so.

** MODS PLEASE CLEAN THIS THREAD UP SO THAT ALL OF THEASE TYPES OF POSTS ARE REMOVED AND THIS THREAD CAN CONTIUNE THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO **

i would like it to stay on track of my install journal and not be de-railed by thease people every day when i come back to check what people have said i dont need to keep sifting through this crap. Please , just seriously leave this thread alone... its not hard... you guys are just making yourselfs look worse by continiously posting and trying to take away from this thread because you have no justified reason to do so what you are doing is counter productive and serves no purpose to this forum, or anybody in it. You arnt helping anybody, you are both just acting like high-school kids.

Grow up, leave this thread alone and continue along your lifes. Thank you

I will be posting back with videos and updates as soon as the install continues to progress //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif until then expect more questions and posts to hash out the hole project with you fellow SPL lovers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Talking it out and planning ahead is going to be the best way to make sure this system preforms to maximum potential . I.E the tuning frequency the port & port size & dimensions, all that stuff.

-andrew

anyways for those who are trying to help me please let me know if i made this box design right, and feel free to take the specs and complete it ! lets see what type of designs we can come up with to achive the best box we can all agree on.

Please enter thease as the External dimensions as this is what they will be.

Height ( from bottom of fibreglass tub to top of the box ) = 26.5 inches

Width ( from side to side ) = 39.5 inches

Length (from back seats to rear bumper ) = 28.5 inches

Each of the FI BTL's are going to combine to take up .52 cubic feet of this box, not to mention the porting/bracing (if they will need it) and thickness of the MDF as they will likely require dual faced top atleast.

So there are some good details for you all out there that want to start messin around with them, i am looking to learn how to use bassbox pro correctly and seing how you guys do it and such could help alot so that i can begin working on my own designs, remember i am looking for around 29hz to 33hz. I deffinatly would like to be able to feel those low notes alot Thanks guys for all your help, i think i am using bassbox pro, but i need to see what some people Who actually DO know how to use it come up with to see if i am along the right lines.

Thanks again corvette, and since that is a no-no how can i tell if my woofers are messed up at all what are good ways of checking for damage on the coils ?

again, i know this might sound stupid but i feel as if they where possibly damaged and are unable to get the full exursion they can get. But this is just newbie paranoia oviously. So thank you for telling me that is a no no //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hehe.

Anyways, will be back with more video once this install continues witch should be very soon gotta keep things moving //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the fact that your box is small for theese subs is what is limiting the excursion of them. I have the same problem. my sub is in around 5 cubes net ported at 34 hz

same subs as yours only I have 1 - and I hardly get the excursion I thought it was capable of. why ? because the sub is fighting the small air space in the box. every time the sub "hits" its pushing the cone out. what this does is stretches the air inside the box - even tho the box is ported - it is still too small amount of air to stretch to allow full movment of the cone. this is why choosing the right subs is soo important. a pair of 15's in the right size box will sound better than a pair of 18's in a box too small due to the above thery.

if your subs play and sound nice - they are not damaged too badly.

the only way to check if they are going bad or not is to put that dmm meter on ohm reading ( looks like headphones on the dial for it ) and read the subs voice coils. + and - and it will tell you what the exact ohm is. when doing this have the sub facing up. do not set it upside down so the cone is resting on the table. this pushes in the cone a bit, and will throw off the ohm reading.

I have never tested a "bad sub" but I would imagine that its coils would read lower. if you had a dual 4 ohm sub, and one coil went bad, I would imagine it would read less than 2 ohms on the bad coil, and 4 ohms on the regular coil.

also - note when reading coils for ohm - it is pretty normal to see 3.7 to 4.3 ohms on the meter on a "4 ohm coil". not exactly shure why... but I get those results some times.

glad to hear you got your system bumping well.

do you have any ports leading from your trunk of the car in to the cabbin ?

or do you fold down a seat or something to allow bass to enter the drivers area?

yup

nope

LOL

My advice is to smoke less weed and go for more epilepsy...
That is probably the most pathetic come-back i have ever seen, i hope karma gets back to you sometime because you are one sad sad individual, Oviously you have no idea how serious a seizure can be. And if you do, then you are even more of a pathetic excuse for a human. Also, this will be my last response to any assh*le like comment or somebody acting arogent and stuck up like this individual, and another. I hope youve had your fun, Move along now because i will no longer be paying you people any attention this thread is for learning and providing usefull information to anybody who could benafit from it not read your pathetic trolling.

Anyways, Thanks again corvette. I understand what you are explaining and i see what you mean by them not being able to streatch out all the way.

When the box gets heightened it should be atleast a tad bit better the more air space the better. They will be in around a 11-12 cubic foot box

(after port and driver displacement) and i will make sure the port is much larger and the propper size to let them breathe real nice.

Unforutnatly no i have no port into my cabin, although i have thought about doing this where the arm-rest is that folds down in the rear of the car

So much air gets in the cabin just by pushing the rear speaker cover up , the thing that goes over the back there to cover it, Bounces up and down like crazy and tons of air flows through there u can feel it all over you it feels like air conditioning lol.

But yeah, It is extremely loud, and they are not over-heating at all anymore.

One of my old friends showed up yesterday when i was testing the Gain and re-setting it for my newest tutorial, and he wanted to hear them so he got in and i turned i up to around 40 and he just curled over holding his gut lol Its like getting kicked in the back and then it feels like u are being bent and flexxed with the car, its pretty crazy to feel that much power from 2 18''s in a car. I love it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Cant wait to make it even crazyer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I tested it on a Db stick that you get from radio shack, i dont think it is very accurate says it cant read more than 130db.

i hit, on this thing 126db i think that it couldnt read anymore because i cranked it up all the way and it didnt budge so i think i was deffinatly over the read-out on this little thing.

Also for those who didnt see hear is my new gain tutorial //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Thanks to everybody who helped me and got my head around this stuff. I am very glad to now be able to make thease helpfull tips into tutorial videos for other people who come along and are new to car audio and need to know thease basic things like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfwbMNgASgU

Anyways guys, will have more video soon once we get the BTL's in ! Then i will be going for the head-unit next, Anybody got any god sugestions for a head unit yet ? Im open to differant brands, any sugestions are welcomed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif thanks guys again for giving me the information needed to get my system functioning, and not just working but pounding extremely hard.

-peace

I am louder than you.

http://www.audiopulse.com/products/subwoofer-drivers/lms-ultra

i have been checking thease things out, they dont require large box's as stated in the description of the previous model before the one in the link, but even those 18''s can work in a sealed enclosure... awsome !

might have to start saving up for a pair of thease //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
