Boss Audio?

I dont think anyone will care if you make a new thread for different quesitons, just dont be posting the same question with new threads haha.
But ya, boss is a shit brand. Stay away from it for sure. Can get pretty good budget subs. Some somewhat cheaper subs are like alpine type r, kicker cvr, etc. Id look into the type r prolly.
Thanks. I'm looking at upgrading from my Sony's before they explode, and my budget is about $160. I don't know whether to go for 2 12's or 1 15. if I got the 15, i would buy a second one later on. I'm not looking for anything competition-style, just something that is a little better than my Sony's (honestly, they hit really hard) and that will last a while longer. They're 300RMS each, so i'm sure anything higher than that will be great. I'll look into the alpines, so thanks.

I feel really stupid though. I don't know much about the brands like Planet Audio, etc. They offer some nice subs (from the specs) for fairly cheap, but I don't want to bother anyone with "is this a good brand" and "is that a good brand" questions all the time. Something just tell me that a 1200W RMS 15" sub for $150 is a bad one.

Alot of people like the type r's for somewhat budget subs on here, they will get pretty loud, they are by no means a sq sub but i doubt your looking for that anyways. People say sony sucks really bad, but ive played with a couple, theyll get "decently loud" "for what they are" but are by no means great. Im not positive, i think you can get a type r for that price brand new, if not they are used for less.

Well I looked at the Type R's and the 12" is about $120. Should I buy one, and then save up and buy another when I have the money? I'm just wondering how much less it's going to hit with only one sub instead of two.

Im sure a single 12" type r will outperform a pair of sony's. However i am assuming the alpine will be in a ported box built to specs and not just thrown in any old box, or a prefab box.

If you want to wait til someone else chimes in on some subs in the same price range, otherwise im sure you'd be happy with the type r, its alot more beefier of a sub compared to a sony. Id prolly do that and save up for another later on, but that just means youll need to build another box when you get the second.

The box isn't a problem, I like building them. I made some custom "stands" for my subs & amp for my current setup because my amp was overheating where it was (attached to the back seat, behind the subs).

I'd build a custom ported box for sure for the single 12" and then later on I can make another box for both.

I appreciate the help for the newbie to this stuff. I bought my whole setup based on the reviews it got (black friday + circuit city ftw), and just as a beginner setup which I knew it was. I was planning on upgrading eventually from the start and well, here I am

For first setup, not bad IMO really. I mean you have to start somewhere. Ive have way shittier stuff than sony before. And im pretty sure i have the same amp as you, from what i can see i got the same one im running for a temporay amp, its pushing a DD 9515 and im surprised it even moves it, let alone flexes my roof! ha..

Since you can build a box, thats a big plus. Just post a thread or search and you can figure out what you need to build, box volume, port area, etc. And it should get pretty loud. But ya, almost anyone will tell you the box is the like the biggest part of the system, or should i say most efficient, the box has ALOT (almost everything) to do with how a system sounds.

Ok thanks. Yeah, AFAIK the box that those sonys came in is pretty badass. It rattles my car so bad, I had to take off the rear windshield wiper. I was thinking of making the same box myself for my new subs, but I'm sure there's a better design out there.

i have a Mach 5 mj18 i'd sell you for 160
I would be all over that, but that's the reason I'm looking at dealer websites instead of the classifieds here; I don't have the money right now, I probably will in a week or two.

build one for a 15" type R or that mj18 tuned to 32 and with 3-4 cu/ft
So I should go for a 15"+ and a bigger box, rather than two 12's and a fitting box?

Well you do have the room for some bigger subs if you want. If your going used, you can maybe get something better for the same price, but if you want new im not sure you can get much better for the price. Its really up to you and how much room you want to use up in there. If you do get two 15's, thatll be quite a bit more cone area and have some more potential to get loud. Then you also need an amp so factor that into your over all cost.

Thanks guys, I was thinking it's a crappy brand because I see their products for really cheap, so yeah. Can anyone recommend a 15" sub for around $160? Random question, I know, but I don't want to annoy anyone by opening a thread every five minutes with all my questions.

Well it sounds like I should go for a 15" right now, and add a second one later. I'll def look into the type-r's and those Mach 5 18's cause those just look badass. Are there any other brands that I should look into that would offer a 15" that would fit into my budget? I'm fine with going used

What brand is this?
